My share is coming to an end (owner asked me to double what I paid, I suggested an amount in the middle, didn't hear anything back and things carried on as normal with me paying the middle amount. Now, a month later, I've found out the owner had advertised him then and is replacing me with someone paying more. No further discussion.)

I hope to see him one last time. Was thinking of going for his favourite hack. Parents have volunteered to take some pictures (I don't have many of me riding him as those are hard to take yourself!) but I'm not sure if I'll be brave enough for that.

So, any tips on how to get you through the last day with a horse you don't want to loose?

Feeling rather alone horse-wise just now as his owner was very supportive in the past.

Stupid thing is once a property is sold (already getting offers) I'll be in a much better financial position and could even have thought about buying (share horse was briefly up for sale last year).

No point in trying to speak to the owner? Tell them that once house is sold you would buy?

As to the last day, do whatever it is that when you look back on the day you wished you had done :)

Its very sad. I use to ride Horlicks every weekend for the RS, and eventually, I was told I was no longer needed as her work load had increased. I was very upset, and although I could ride her during my weekly lesson, it wasn't the same.
Get your parents to take some pics whilst you ride, it may be hard, but your be thankfully when you look back at them.

Be brave and look to the future. Things happen for a reason, and maybe you will sell property, and find something just as good if not better, that you can call your own!!

Aw. Thanks all. It really helps to know other people understand.

I've asked the owner to get in touch if he is ever for sale again as when we're not paying rent /and/ a mortgage things will be a lot easier. Don't know if owner would but as the new sharer has already been told when they are starting I think that is all I can do at this stage.

I was quite a committed sharer, (didn't miss a day in the snow last winter even though all I could do was groom and take him out in hand), so might eventually look for another I guess. Perhaps something like a loan from a student/expectant mum or something that I knew would be a fixed time so the end wouldn't be a bad surprise. That or wait until I can have my own.

For now I'll take H&H's kind thoughts with me to make me brave about pictures.
 
My thoughts go out to you, I remember having to sell my first horse, I was in a right state!! Where in the country are you? I would definately look for another share/loan etc if you can bring yourself to, not all end like that. I can in a way see why the owner may have wanted to up the keep costs, due to the hay prices with the coming winter etc, but the way they've done it sounds totally off.
