I have my stage 2 jumping exam this Tuesday and really want to pass! I failed it two years ago due being unprepared - I did well over the first jump with the first horse but belted around the course on the second horse, nearly jumping to China!
I'm a bit worried about all the etiquette of the BHS exams in particular. I can remember things like checking your tack, mounting correctly but worried I'll do something bad or silly in ignorance.
Any things to avoid? Anythings to remember? I do have the books and videos but you're all more informative than they are:)

Learn the length of your stride or steps so you can walk the course accurately. When you walk it remember to walk it as you plan to ride it. Note the distance between any doubles or related fences.

Double check your girth and bridle. Ride to the centre of the fence and wherever possible ride a 3 stride straight approach and 3 stride straight after landing for each fence.

Listen carefully to instructions, concentrate totally on your horse analysing every move

DON'T WEAR YOUR SPURS! PAt Smallwood (FBHS) told me that one.

Most of all enjoy the day, have fun, enjoy riding different horses.

Spurs can only be worn from Stage 4 upwards in BHS exams so no need to take or worry about them.

Just try to get on and ride a smooth a round as possible. Utilise the space within the arena well and ride in balance with the horse. Maintain a rhythm and be aware of whether the horse is on the correct canter lead.

Glad to see that spurs are only allowed at Stage 4 - and the advise is excellent especially the canter lead. If horse doesn't do a flying change then quickly back to trot and canter again. Try to think ahead as you approach the jump as to which lead you need next on landing

Ooh - are you at Beas River tomorrow?? I'm doing the Stage 2 Care exam and feel somewhat under-prepared :O I should be able to do it all easily which just means I feel even more pressure!!

hi i did mine last week and was really nervouse as i haven't done an exam in over 10 yrs. and not jumped for at least 3yrs only started 3 weeks before exam.

i felt mine went really well just make sure your going forwards and straight the horse will do the rest, they are looking that you are secure and confident!!!!

As for the rest of the day it went better than i could of expected am a competition groom so i have lots of bad habit and my own way of doing things, so getting bhs again was the hard part but the examiners nurse you through it a fair bit

:D
