Apparently my face was a picture when they handed me the test sheet and red rosette! I thought her test was as nice as she's capable of doing but I knew we had a 2 mark deduction for jockey error and she's hardly a dressage diva bless her. So yup, totally embarrassed myself by crying over a 13h pony!!

Anyway, hooligan's flatwork lesson at camp was hugely useful in that way minor tweaks can be. Instructor pointed out that we had flexion to the left and resistance to the right. She stood with me and got it with her hands on the reins so obviously me. Once I'd started focusing back it came - and so did my right canter. Got on him this morning and had some of the nicest canter to date. Hocks underneath bouncy canter.

Just need to ride better really then maybe my hairy cobs can join @j1ffy who is looking very smart in the post above!
 
Well my plans didn't go to plan - struck down by the dreaded flu virus and feeling so dreadful that when I was mucking the boys out over the weekend and I lost my balance, both Rabbit and Baggs came to my rescue to stop me smashing my face into the floor! So my weekend was filled with lots of cuddles from my boys, a few power naps with my weimaraner Loki and a cheeky takeaway cause I honestly couldn't be arsed to cook......

I did manage a very brief 10 minute training session with Rabbit and bridling however and he's come on in leaps and bounds - so much so that we can now safely bridle outside the stable without him pulling out his best giraffe impression 🤣 I'm going to have him bitless as I do tons of hacking so I like them to be able to drink and have a snack when we are out for a few hours, but I always think it's handy to have him used to wearing a bit any time that he needs to in the future :)

On the subject of stress busting...

What is the point of being retired if you can't chuck your horse in his car and do a 3 1/2 hour round trip to the beach, for no better reason than it is sunny?

His 3rd beach adventure, first time solo. He was such a gent. He is a really lovely horse!

He actually got into the sea and also hit gallop!

We didn't get to do our arena hire, as both of us just ran out of time to plan! But we did hack to the venue and both mares were super duper. First hack as a pair where somebody didn't have to get off and lead past something! 🎉 Including the local donkey sanctuary taking their little crew out for walkies, with dogs and prams and kiddies.

Wee Sadie moo is even deciding she can lead on hacks sometimes now which is new and lovely. Up until recently you couldn't have got her to walk in front with a cattle prod. I think cow parsley season is helping. If you're out in front a bit you can have a snack break while the rest catch up 😂
 
@smolmaus I have the opposite my little girl is now happy to walk behind and side by side without a tantrum and speed walking home alone.
@SEL it's gorgeous but it's hard work to get up there as it's a solid 45 mins uphill

We did have a little tantrum on Sunday to be fair, I was convinced to go out for a short one with the Yard Teens, and she absolutely hates one of their ponies so I had my arms pulled out until she was allowed to go in front where she didn't have to even look at him 😡😡😡 then she was perfect. He is a cheeky bugger, I don't blame her 😂
 
@Cloball your hacking is just dreamy!

I managed to get back on at the weekend, after our fairly hopeless month of mostly being off. His Lordship was a little spooky on Saturday, but the farmer had apparently been up to all sorts all day near the horses’ fields and he was in high spirits even just coming in from the field. Sunday was much better, and we were both more relaxed. Here’s hoping for more of that sort of thing, and fewer days like Saturday.
