No weekend thread? Have we all vanished into the murk that seems to have covered the UK for days and days?

Did a polework clinic on Xmas eve which was great. Very enthusiastic cob but nailed his canter work which has been our nemesis this year. Needed my borrowed neckstrap though 😅

Persuaded my OH out of his sick bed to video my 2 tests for the e-riders championship but my grass arena is like a skating rink. One test is nice, the other is braced and horrible because the surface was giving up on us. Did the Intro then tried one canter and realised that wasn't happening. Never mind - 2025 aspiration can be summer prelim championship

Off to cholsey for a blast tomorrow. Hoping the sun might show up....

Fingers crossed for sunshine! Feels like walking around in a cloud recently.

I had a lesson today. The main thing for me was learning/practicing not giving myself a hard time about my riding. It was polar opposite to my last lesson where I was nervous but laughed it off, pushed through and enjoyed it still.

Today I had to just acknowledge that I physically feel like I am a blob of cheese, I've had too much alcohol and not enough sleep over the last week, and spent the last three days with OH's family which was really very stressful. It didn't take much in my lesson for me to go over the threshold of what I could manage with nerves. So we just did walk and I had a nice time, and didn't start thinking how crap I am at riding. I'm not crap, it's just been a tough week. It was a bit disappointing but next time will be better.

We seem to be in the minority and have had some beautiful sunny days over Christmas.

We hacked out Boxing Day, and then yesterday I took him in the school.

I have to say riding Bo in the Ghost saddle is an absolute joy. He has such freedom now. His canter feels amazing, and I feel i can just sit there and let him enjoy that freedom.

The best thing is, for the first time in several decades of riding, I can actually feel our trot diagonals without having to look at his shoulders. (embarrassing but true). I can feel his hips moving now, which I've never been able to before, at least not reliably.

Hacking tomorrow, but then it's turning a bit wild and windy again so we'll just be doing groundwork for a few days.

We're just schooling atm. Not feeling up to hacking His Lordship yet and as I injured my foot last weekend, can't take him out in hand 🙃 I don't dare lunge either. Riding is perfectly comfortable though!

Walk and trot only as I'm VERY unfit and don't want to go flying if he gets overexcited with canter work. So we're sticking to the basics and I'm going to try to give us a very solid foundation and find out where any gaps are!

We are going on our big annual Christmas yard hack today - it will be Shadow’s first time hacking with more than 2 others (there will be max 9 of us as only 10 on the yard and one is currently lame). It’s the first one I’ve actually been on as it would’ve been too much for Nova’s brain and I was always too busy to join in when I had Badger.

I'm just confused that this even is the weekend - either way my christmas of riding has gone out the window with a bug for me, vet visit for the horse and the cream on the cake being the lorry not starting. Bring on 2025!

Well done to everyone who's managed to get out and about.

Another who has had the lurge but took horse for 10 minute stroll - first sit on for two and a half months. Have been hand walking him so not complete surprise. Then a tail wash and a tidy up.

Hope all the ill people recovering nicely.

We have a vet work up tomorrow. Henry has gone from something very subtle not quite right to looking a mess and no topline in the space of two weeks. I’m very concerned, a month a go we were on the cusp of going medium and now he looks like he has never done dressage in his life. He has also dropped a lot of condition despite so much food, so I suspect ulcers as well.

Im feeing devastated and I don’t even know what’s wrong. This time last week we were at the beach and he was ok, and now he’s very clearly not ok!
