What's everyone up to?

Plan for horse is his usual hack on Saturday, and a clicker session focused on the sheath area so that, by the time he actually needs his sheath cleaned, he'll have stopped trying to kick me in the head.

Plan for me is to go watch the XC at Munstead on Sunday, and maybe go for a walk around Godalming while I'm there.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend x

I used to live near Godalming, I miss being able to pop over to Munstead to watch a bit of XC!

I have a lesson on share horse tomorrow, only our second one and much delayed due to me being unwell. My intention is to try to do one a month so that we don't have too many unsupervised sessions in the school in a row and get into bad habits! I know we have a lot of work to do so not expecting it to be an easy lesson but I so hope my instructor sees some improvement. I feel much better riding share horse at least, even if that doesn't translate to it looking much better. I'm rating success in terms of smiles on my face at the beginning and end of each ride :D

The weather looks pants so I'm not feeling so inspired to try extending my hacking again after my mini solo hack success last weekend! Perhaps I will just do up the lane and back again before we go in the school.

Looking at new and ingenius ways to spend more money on my horses because I think the bosal would really suit Hermosa but Fin's bosal, which I've been using, does not fit her and she's not happy about it (he has a wide head and she has a narrow Spanish head). Those things are f*ckin' expensive.

I will also be either mountain biking or hillwalking in Glencoe, because I occasionally still try to do things that don't involve horses.

"Does not involve horses" looks confused.....

I will be mainly getting wet looking at the forecast, whether that involves horses or not. My fields had geese on yesterday so perhaps I can teach the ponies to swim. They were supposed to be moving out of their winter field but no point in turning somewhere else to mud.

I actually have plans!!

I'm taking Chilli to a weekend camp with Diane Thurman-Baker. He's still not in ridden work yet (bar a bit of walk work in the school) so we'll be focusing on in-hand, which is a skill I'd love to develop anyway.

Just landed back from Cairo.

Was meant to be at Broadway on Sunday for 1st event of season but rained off 😖
Understandable but disappointing.

So we've changed plans and going on a fun ride with a friend- keeping the fitness up and hopefully a few jumps.

Ohhhh.... please do a report, I'm really keen to get to one of these and learn some in hand skills to help us progress.

After last week's exciting Eurasian Cataphract course, I'm back to my less exciting weekly Sunday riding lesson. I'm going to chat to my instructor about doing a bit in light seat each week so next time I do a course like this my balance is better.

We are showjumping tomorrow, another training day. Looking forward to it, and it even rained today! We have rain all weekend, lets hope we get it as everything is so dry and dusty.

Sunday I'm hoping to ride Coolie, hes had several weeks off due to his dental surgery so I'm looking forward to that, then we are going bike riding, as long as its not too wet!

After a winter of not doing a whole lot other than ticking over due to weather/time/motivation/ailments, Sky and I are now mobile again so we're heading out on both days to do some nice long slow hacks to crank up his fitness again. The sun's been shining a bit more this week and that has done wonders for my motivation!

Meant to be at Northallerton doing 6yo's first BE100 on Saturday, but not entirely confident the weather is going to facilitate that. Can only hope that it has been drier on that side of the Pennines than it has been here!

*EDITED* - just seen your post about the cancellation :( rubbish.

I'm in East Yorkshire and it's not been toooooooo wet this side of the Pennines :)

Be really interested in a report on this. It is something I have thought about doing.

We are not out and about yet, unfortunately delayed start to the competing season but do need to catch up on sleep! Good luck to all those out and about.

Very envious, feels like years since I last saw a proper hill. Post of a photo from the route for us poor sods down South, won't you?

Sounds interesting - I'm another who'd be interested in hearing a report of how it goes.

I’m hoping to ride if the weather plays ball. We are starting to introduce some schooling again after getting our saddle looked at (she was a monkey in the saddle fitting on Monday - just napping to two geldings whose field shares a fence with the school and she was in season so you can imagine!) I’m planning to hop on and have a walk and a trot today with the help of a very good friend. I need a bit of direction and assistance (and confidence for myself as she has come back into work so sharp - but it feels like spring/babyness compared to pain or anything) but I’m not sure if it’s completely too early to even be thinking about having lessons yet?

Then hoping to hack on Sunday, either with someone or try her out on her own just a quick 400m hack up the track and back.

We went and jumped. It was far from perfect, my legs went to jelly and my brain full of wool which makes it really hard to keep your leg on and jump well. We did it though and improved across the 2 rounds so thats the main thing. It is so frustrating because I dont worry about the jumps, just that I might fall off and my self confidence in the saddle seems to have evaporated at times even though I know I can do it, and I do it pretty well too! Hoping if I keep chipping away it'll start to feel easier soon.

Really pleased with baby cob over the past 2 days. I have picked up something snotty from a work trip to London so not feeling 100%, we've had really wet & windy weather and he's been a star. Can't believe he'll be 5 in 6 weeks - he's looking more grown up too.

Hacked him yesterday but the bridlepath was a slippery mess so just walking in sideways rain. He was fabulous with some idiot drivers and flapping tarpaulin. Schooled in my driest field today in high winds and I could feel him softening & lengthening so hopefully those stifles are getting stronger by the day.

Microcob has been on walk work after tweaking her old pelvic / back injury. Haven't seen her gallop in the field for a while but she left me with a face full of mud turning out so either it's spring sillies or she's feeling better.

Today was a day I should’ve just stayed in bed. Between the weather and Nova being in season, I’ve definitely lost confidence. I shouldn’t have ridden at all! She spent a lot of time trying to canter or with just 2 feet on the floor. I’ve got a lesson on Tuesday to hopefully get my confidence back.

I know this is just what having young horses is all about though

Odd weekend for me. Some exciting happenings and some sadness. The E-book version of a rider confidence book I've written went live on Thursday, which was exciting. But I had a family funeral on Friday which was difficult.

Lottie was ridden by her sharer and did 16 hilly miles on Friday, and was still raring to go at the end. So Man V Horse training is all looking good.

Stayed with family down South till last night and today went to a lesson with a few XC jumps as I STILL haven't done any XC schooling on grass, and Norton Disney is coming up soon. Focused on lines and turns and skinnies as that is where we need the work. Jumped a shoulder fence (seen in pic) which was useful. But it was all small - high enough but nothing solid looking, wide or scary, which is what I feel I need! Oh well, it will have to do. She will be fine, I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about the family funeral. I hope the positives went a little towards helping you through the difficult parts.

A mix of feelings for me too this weekend. Third anniversary of my dad's death today, I didn't realise this one would hit harder than the previous two. The lesson I'd be looking forward to I struggled with anxiety, and I'm not convinced it was just the usual confidence stuff (though AE please do send me a link to your book, I would be interested to find out more as need all the help I can get!) On the flip side, I came through it with OH and my instructor's support, alongside share horse of course.
