How is it Friday again already?!

I've had the week off work but not been well; unclear if I have a cold or it's 'just' more Long Covid fun having over-done it last week. Either way I've been feeling fairly crap.

Still on Wednesday I was able to enjoy my lesson as a ground work session. My lunging is still not great, I struggle to be in the right place to get the horse to move forwards, but the long lining was fun. It was a new experience for the veteran horse I would usually be riding. He wasn't sure about it at first, but he was a good boy and my instructor and I worked together to help him get the idea. Thankfully my OH has been off work this week too so him driving me there and back meant I didn't have to miss out completely as even the 45 mins on the ground walking took it out of me.

Then today a ridden lesson at other RS, and oh boy were the nerves back with a vengeance! At least I have a really clear link now with fatigue levels, and again if my OH hadn't been able to drive me I wouldn't have been able to go. I've rested and rested, and still feel crap so sometimes I just think oh sod it I may as well do the nice thing. RS horse was such a good boy and the instructor was super understanding. Having someone walk round with me for the whole lesson feels a long way away from a week ago hanging off the side of a horse I've only ridden once before, ages ago. Still, our walk work was very nice and I enjoyed horse time.

Had second Sports Psych session but unfortunately not been well enough to put it into practice yet. I'm excited to give it a try though :)

Hope others have nice weather and plans for the weekend ahead.

Lari out tomorrow afternoon following his coffin joint medication.

Going out for a slap up meal tomorrow night to celebrate our house move and hacking out Sunday morning which I'm looking forward to.

Now I have some decent money behind me from the sale of the house I'm going to restart the search for a new horse this winter and get my tow bar fitted. Exciting times.

Sounds like a nice weekend. Have fun and good luck with the horse searching. Lazy weekend ahead for us. Lovely riding lesson this afternoon and the stables had a BBQ get-together. Everyone brought something. Unfortunately, it poured with rain! Nevertheless we all had a good time and nobody went home hungry! Definitely beat cooking!

Had a group riding lesson yesterday. Getting to know a new RS pony. She's a little ploddy but some of that is a lack of fitness.

Going to the first club session of the new local horse archery club tomorrow. Just doing the ground session due to not owning a horse.

Next week I've got a 2 day horse archery camp down in Abergavenny.

Off to compete in RC dressage test. We have finally progressed to ones with canter in them, finally, as being in an indoor school blows his mind. I know he will be an idiot in the indoor arena on Sunday and get the usual comments of tense and rushing, but we rode the test through in the field yesterday and he was perfect! Light, balanced, not rushing and SO receptive to my aids. He was a delight. One day, hopefully, he'll be able to do this in front of a judge.

Been at my trainer’s for a couple of lessons in prep for next week’s PetPlan Area Champs - we got wildcards for Medium Silver and Ad Med Bronze. Having been in Lisbon on hols last weekend, now heading to Lancs for a family event and then London Monday/Tuesday I had to shoehorn some training into the schedule!!

Thursday lesson was actually a riding lesson, rather than a psychology appointment which was nice. Everybody was relaxed and happy and ready to work, only taken about 10 months to get there 😂

Was out getting soaked at a local show this morning to support a friend, probably won't be riding todsy as the rain doesn't look like stopping. I could test my new riding coat, but I dont think it would stop Sadie turning her bum into the rain and only going backwards and sideways. Will hack tomorrow!

Was going to be a weekend of hacking but D bashed the inside of her leg so only one hack for me. Thankfully she let me give it a good clean and poke without too much bother just some impressive flexions which considering she used to try and boot you for being mildly annoying is really rather cute 🥺

Had an Intro to working equitation session this morning organised by the riding club. Really good fun and now we've met the obstacles I'd like to go back and have a go at a trot (or even canter!) Gates though - we can open the rope, turn but closing again was greeted with much suspicion. Need to practice that at home.

After one spook at the bull he gave it a sniff & decided it wasn't worth worrying about.

Got out for a wee walk after all!

As I took this she was about to spook at her own shadow

I have been very boring (& will likely continue to be so for some time)

The pony has had his guttural pouch flush, been confirmed negative and so has a partial release from the isolation area (next we need rid of his little wormy friends and then he can start having some actual equine company in with him… fences have been moved so he can now touch noses with everyone but after the first half a day he’s decided that’s a bit boring & food is more important)

Yesterday went for a walk to the bottom of the drive, stared at the road for a bit & eaten some grass. Also had a wander around the arena, sniffed some cones & poles & nibbled at the hedges.

Today we went up to the tie up area and nibbled a haynet whilst some of the other horses looked on (& were largely ignored). Didn’t try to boot the hell out of the side of the barn so that counts as a win.

Have started trimming the bottom of his feathers a little so they don’t drag in the mud. Need to find a comb (or buy some scissors with one on) to make it look a bit better / tidier. Probably in the long term I’ll end up clipping them but there’s the small problems that I don’t have any A5 clippers, have never clipped / blended legs ever in my life and that he’s not met clippers yet either…. I’m sure you all look forward to photos of the mess I’ll make as I learn 😂
(Ditto the mane as think an intervention shall be required at some point to even it out and I’ve not trimmed a mane since the dim and distant past of 2012 😂)

Yard jobs this morning, then have to quickly shuttle a friends horse back from vets. Black princess having her fat leg lasered this afternoon then winging it home to hopefully catch my homebred in 🇮🇪 on the livestream

Ballindenisk?
I’m down here at the moment, was here yesterday as well. Fab weather, gorgeous event. Hoping to see some of the 4* sj today, one of the riders I’m here to cheer on is xc early this morning and then I’ll be glued to the jumping 😂

Amazing - best of luck!
Might spot him sj then 😀 not that I know him, and I won’t ask for the sake of your privacy, but I’m hoping to see from the tail end of 4* and a good chunk of the 3*.

Mines in the 2L but you probably just saw a really good friend of mine come top 6 in the 4L, I was cheering from across the water 😂

Went to a RC jumping clinic. New venue for us, and only up the road. Shaky start as it is a working farm so a lot to look at, including cows in a barn! Then she chilled and did extremely well 🥰 OMG she can jump. She is only a green baby but all the instincts are there and she is bold. She has as much jump as I am ever going to need 🥰

Fab good outing.

Surprisingly uninspiring in the SJ which is a shame because he was sitting well up the leaderboard. At least an MER in the bank for his new jockey.

Lots of issues in sj, it was very, very decisive (and disruptive!) to the placings!
But well done to him and his jockey, hope they enjoyed it. Beautiful event, fabulous setting!
