I've seen some hay for sale that was cut July 2012.

Will it be ok to keep until this winter? Its for two shetlands so doesn't have to be amazing hay, of course if its smelly/mouldy I won't touch, and they eat so little it will probably last me until 6 months time.

I'm used to a YO getting it and just paying for it! :o

We had some from summer 2010 that we used this winter. It was fine. As long as the hay is good should be ok.

If it's been stored well and isn't dusty it'll be perfect, expecially for shetlands as I believe it looses nutritional value over time. Farmers often get rid of last years hay around now as it's no good for sheep/ cattle becasue of the low calories.
I've fed a fatty 3/4 year old hay before - saves soaking

Sounds perfect for Shetlands, I always look for older hay for my pony that's had lami. As long as its not dusty its fine. I still soak it but find I can feed him approx. 1.5kg more than if using newer hay so definitely worth seeking out imo.
