I have just been so busy, doing full time on the yard and uni both of which want 1000 hours a day hasn't really worked!!
Anyway Hambleden PN, first event since I broke my foot, not that long since we started jumping properly, to be fair haven't really started jumping properly its certainly in a new style!!! Did enter the novice but decided to change down to the PN as was having confidence crisis with my inability to ride properly and keep feet in stirrups!!
Walked the course on my own while the other horse did dressage, took the dog to pull me round and it did take longer than normal hobbling but not too bad. Hambleden always has lovely courses not too big and not too many questions so a nice one to start with. Having gone round the novice brilliantly there last year once i'd seen the course i was a bit gutted I wasn't doing it! However best to see if I can stay on and do everything together in a course!
Worked in for dressage well, then the judge went to have a coffee as he'd missed the break before Eventually went in for the test and it was ok. I dont' think i'm that effective at making him go well at the moment so Tog just trundled round bless him. I HATE PN dressage though as you can never judge at all what sort of mark you'll get. Other horse was in the same section did a fabulous test but came out with a 42 having had 29 at his last one but gone better this time. I got 37 again a bit disappointing really as the last PN he did was a 28 and certainly not better than Barney's test! However stayed on, stayed in the boards and did everything in the right place.
Gave other horse a jump and they then went in and clear so that was good and gave me chance to look at the course. The ground in the arena was lovely too - so nice when events make a big effort like they do here with watering etc. Barney whizzed round the XC - still in SJ gear , v quick and clear. Sadly 42 no good for PN prizes!!
Then it was my turn, have been really nervous jumping wise so was really nervous here too. Its not the fences at all more my lack of balance and ability to do very much between the fences! So that was teh point when i was thinking I may as well be doing the novice or the intermediate as i don't think i'd feel any different!!
Warmed up well and went in and Tog was fab, jumped a good clear. Not perfect by any means but the new bit definitely helps - have taken D's off the pelham and put spur straps looped round quite tightly on instead - bizarre but it works! Also leather curb can be tighter but less severe.
Straight up to XC. Had a canter and a pop with shorter stirrups, 4 holes shorter than i've ridden since breaking foot but thought sod it we'll have a go! Was feeling quite nervous but had to tell myself the course isn't scary but my riding might be but lets have a canter round and see what happens!
The starter was a man, Tog doesn't like men, I asked him just to stay away from us and be quite quiet, to which he put his hands on his hips and said "he doesn't like men" to which Tog span round!!! So stayed well away from the man until he called 20 secs, just as he called 20secs, a loose horse courtesy of Kitty Boggis came galloping towards the start box and the starter started flapping his arms to stop it. Poor Tog his heart was beating like mad bless him, wasn't worried about the horse which went past and on to the lorry park but the starter! When he said they had a green light and started counting me down I actually didn't know if we were going to get to the start box let alone through it. But we did and we were away!! Jumped the first 3 a little bit wild then went completely the other way as I was testing my balance and brakes by going slowly. Got to the steps and thought for god sake women get going again. So we did and he was fab, flew home clear inside the time to finish 8th
Good first event really can't complain at all!!! Going to do another PN at Moreton Morrell more because i wanted to be sure i was ready to go Novice, having schooled yesterday i would definitely say we're ready to go novice and could quite easily have gone to Houghton Hall * but no harm in taking it slower.
