Last event of the season on Sat, as I'm now sat at my desk back at uni (thinking about riding!), so all been a bit hectic.
So off to South of England, and his second PN. My dressage wasn't until ten to four, and my xc 6.15! So felt very strange leaving the yard at 1 o'clock, and rocking up as people were leaving!
Dressage he warmed up nicely and went in and did a good accurate test, slightly overcooked I think as they were running 15mins late..so really could have done to go in 10mins before. He usually does a very good free-walk (which is great as it works out a 7 or 8 x2!) - unfortunately he was a bit hot and bothered, and shook his head so was only a 5. Big pats though as very pleased; however, thought he'd done a good test last time, to end up 3/4 way down the section, so no point second-guessing the mark!!
Power-walked the XC- definitely more meaty than Munstead, quite a few combinations, but a very nice course and thought it would be a good test for him.
Back to SJ, which seemed to be causing quite a few problems and not many clears..warmed up a little bit donkey-stylee, but woke up once into the ring and jumped super
He had an oxer down - 2nd part of a related distance 4 to 5; I had a good shot in, but he does have such a long stride simply made up too much ground, and numpty here wasn't quick enough to sit up and get him back - kicked myself for it, especially as I had seen several other people do this earlier on in the day!
On to the xc, and he did a good clear..this is now his 6th ODE, so he's starting to know his job, and is a real little tiger now - to the point of being a little bit cocky and sometimes not listening to me as much as I'd like!! However, he went all the straight routes well, and I think we'll now just need to work on some angles/skinnies/control in the school over the Winter now.
A check on the scoreboard and found we'd finished 6th, so a lovely way to finish the season
He was about 5th/6th after dressage on a score of 30, so didn't move down much even with his pole down. Very chuffed with him, as he was balloted to the OPN, and looking at the ones above him, 3 had lots of points, and one was Pippa Funnell, so he held his own against some much more experienced horses.
I've finally worked out how to upload photos - I think! So these are a few from Sat..
