Mo's had a strange swelling for a week now & has been on boxrest as per vets' instructions. There was no lameness, but the swelling didnt improve so we took her to the vets today for xrays & an ultrasound. Xray was clear but scan showed a lesion in the LDE. Vet said this was quite an uncommon injury & has no idea how she could have done it. She said it should be fine though & not cause any problems. Said to boxrest for another week, apply anti-inflam stuff twice daily, small paddock turnout for 2 weeks, then start riding again.

Just wondering if anyone has had a horse do this before? If so, how did they do it?? I cant understand what she's done!! And did it ever cause any problems for you?

Many thanks,

Lou. x

Hi, my mare severed her extensor tendon when she caught her leg in wire. She wasn't lame on it at the time and has never been lame since (2 years ago). My vet told me it is a tendon they can manage without. She has a fat leg but that is more due to the wound as it didn't heal well.

I'm always mindfull of it but it doesn't seem to cause her a problem - certainly didn't stop her hammering around the field like a loon this morning

Good luck with yours.

How bizarre!!! My pony has done the exact same thing!!! I posted about it a couple of weeks ago!
Her extensor tendon is about 4 X as big as it should be but she isn't lame, it's not sore and has no heat in it.
My vet also said it is a very uncommon injury, but there is not a huge amount you can do about it- they learn to cope without them!
Oh, She is 24years old and done it in the field were she lives out 24/7!
