You know all those emails that fly round asking about buying your horse/lorry etc that is for sale, sight unseen, and can they send you a cheque for more than the horse's value so you can pay their shipper.

Well today I got a new variation on that, addressed to dear teacher, wanting me to teach someones daughter over the summer, they would pay in advance now for the whole 3 months etc etc. Funnily enough I don teach people, but I do take horses in for schooling, so the spammers obviously did a little research but didnt quite get it right. And the appalling use of English also makes it clear this is another, slightly clever spam.

Thought it was worth highlighting in case anyone else got it and thought it was genuine

They don't always use bad English or follow the same path. I once tried selling a horse on the internet. She was a rescue from travellers and my stubborness over her nearly got me killed. We weren't a charity at the time and were able to sell her.
I decided to sell her and i got what looked like a genuine enquiry amongst all the others obviouse ones.
We emailed for a couple of weeks and the home sounded absolutely perfect. A business man buying for his daughter. They lived on a farm in Berlin or somewhere. I was so extremely careful. He asked all the right questions and was agreed i travelled with the horse to inspect the home.
It went wrong when i got a cheque in a different name. It made me suspiciouse. I was not told to cash it but put it in my bank. I discussed it with my bank, rang the bank the cheque would be drawn on.
It did turn out to be a scam and the Nigerian rang me threatening me on a number of occasions. We had two drive by shootings also. I saved everything and went to the police. The Nigerians lived a few streets away from me!
They ended up doing a runner.
If it can happen it will happen to me.

Talking of spam - I have a very good spam filter which goes into a different box from my own personal one, but I always check them, because sometimes a long-awaited e-mail doesn't get recognised and goes direct into spam.

I get about 35 a day (!) most of which are trying to sell me viagra, enhancements, porn and goodness knows what else! If they only knew that I was a female pensioner they wouldn't bother, but some of the subject headings are quite amusing, tho' I wouldn't want my grand-children to read too many of them!

Sorry to have gone off the subject .......
