What is the difference between latex/foam/serge?

If a saddle has latex panels can it still be flocked with wool or is it latex all the way through. Could you add wool flocking to part of it.

Does it become compact like wool or does it bounce back. Can latex develop pressure points. Is there any 'give' in latex or is it rock hard through out.

What are Andy Fosters saddles like, I heard he trained with Barry Swaine.

Thanks all:)

I would be tempted to ring Barry Swain and ask about him. The name doesn;t ring a bell with me with regard to people at Barries and I have been going to him for about 15 years. With regard to the materials, Serge is the wool lining that goes against the horses back and you can have a serge liner regardless of whether you wool flock or you have latex. Latex doesn't have flock added, it supposedly stays the same forever and cannot be tweaked like flocking can. it does mould to a certain extent and works best for horses who don;t really change shape. wool flock does not tend to compact when used with a serge liner as the serge has a massaging effect on the horses back and the wool inside the saddle. My own personal preference is a half panel saddle, serge liner and flock.
