Dressage - 34.1
SJ - 16 faults
XC - Clear, 9.6 time
Position - 22nd out of 44
Dressage was overall a nice test; presenting a nice picture with relaxed and fluid movement mostly through out. It was just spoilt by a few of his transitions and some resistance in the rein. Mexico never achieves great marks for his medium trot or canter, as they are not yet fully established. This therefore means that you know his mark will be affected by this before you even go into the arena.
SJ was...... interesting! Safe to say he was pretty awful, and it was probably the worst round he has ever done. Mexico is not a particularly strong show jumper and finds XC far more exciting. It didn't help that the fences were all close together and constructed of light thin poles, which fell pretty easily. To be far to him though he hasn't been out competing since Salperton, which is almost 4 weeks ago. Mexico is a laid back horse by nature, but he was extra lazy in all three phases. On the plus side there were only 7 clears out of 44.
As he had 4 fences down in the SJ Mexico was definitely out of the placings. Laura took him steady XC picking up 9.6 time penalties. Also what was rather interesting is it was the first time Mexico has ever looked at something XC {see video}. He is bold and straight forward XC so it didn't cause him too many problems, and was far smaller than his first Intermediate that he did at Salperton, where it was HUGE!
Mexico's next event should hopefully be Somerford Park Intermediate on 22nd August, where Matthew Wright will be riding him.
A rather amusing comment made by the XC commentator {listen on video, it's the way it is said that makes me smile}
"When walking the course please do listen out for the fence judge's whistle that is blow with vigor to warn you of approaching horses. Horses traveling of upwards of 20-25mph, one of those running into you could just spoil your day!".
