Laura Renwick

And to add final insult, she didn't even pat it on the way out - something I thought was just good manners at a show like Olympia.

She must have dropped her whip half way round, because someone handed it to her at the end and she had a sour look on her face, which left you with the uncomfortable feeling she was off to beat it some more (which hopefully she didn't) but a smile and a pat would have left a much better impression.

i don't even jump with a whip

actually, now i think... i dont either, i dont need it.... i did have it last sjing, as she was a bit lethargic, but i dint use it... cos she bucked me off lol

Also I would not agree with not holding a whip. In certain situations a tap on the shoulder with a stick can make a real difference. Pickle also knows when I don't have a stick, even just holding ones keeps him more alert.

the horses are genuin enough and obviously not stoppers normally

[/ QUOTE ]
Do you know that the horses have never stopped before?

[/ QUOTE ]

i mean stoppers as in "the type that stop all the time for no apparent reason"
crazy.gif
and even if that horse has stopped before it isnt a "stopper" as it wouldnt be ridden by someone like her and wouldnt be at Olympia jumping at this level!!

Ouch, bad luck, i will show with one, because i cant afford to have bob mess up! but i wont use unless he needs a little tap on the shoulder for some extra energy. If he was really going silly, i would walk out. there is no point doing something that is counter-constructive..

she dropped her whip when she tried to hit it on the backside hard mid air, at the fence it stopped at, so she had to travel from fence 2 with no whip!! she deserves a ban - Ive known people banned by the bsja for less!

Let's not go overboard- yes it was a harsh reprimand that made very uncomfortable viewing and a (in my pretty much worthless opinion) haphazard round- but I think calls for her to be banned are a bit much
crazy.gif

Great that you can get your horse round a 3ft course without a stick but they DO have their place and the kinds of horses who jump these Olympia courses are a little different to your average BN horse.

Yes ditto

IMO the horse was badly set up for the fence, she the hit it three times and then again on take off when she lost her whip.

Yesterday she took the wrong course and presented the horse at the correct fence at the same terrible angle as she did today, once she had realised her error. The horse got one hefty thwack for that.

I had been quite impressed with her riding this week but she's off my Christmas card list now!

I'm not opposing the use of whips, but i am however opposing the OVERuse of whips, its not setting a good example at all to people who admire her..

[/ QUOTE ]

i agree... they have there place... but shouldnt be overused

AH, ok, I still dont agree with the way she used her whip, and she should at LEAST get a warning from the BSJA. From what i saw.. it was her fault, not the horses.. :S I didn't see any big cracks when there was a refusal during the puissonsse (SP) at HOYS and fair enough, in all honesty, that is a LOT bigger.

i saw it and dont think she quite deserves a ban!!

yes it was a poor show infront of a family crowd....... yes she will offend lots of ppl (as shown on this forum) .... yes she should of taken it slower due to the bad round the pair jumped the day before.... and yes i think it was partly lauras fault for being too competitive!!

but give the girl some credit..... i have never seen her horses have a problem before and they ALL want to jump for her. its a big show and a big atmosphere i feel that the young horse has been over fazed and jumped too quickly day after day. im sure laura will evaluate the performance and take the mare home for some confidence building schooling.... she DID NOT look to me asthou she was going to take the mare behind the scenes and beat it!! lol

i feel its jst a pitty she did not take ben mahers lead and give the horse the benifit of the doubt once and then reprimand with one smack. this i feel he did because of the crowds.

prehapes laura will be little more careful next time? after all everything is a learning curve

Totally agree.

It was a rider error enduced stop and therefore did not deserve 3 hard smacks then and other on take off. If it was a dirty stop then maybe and I am all for whips, a short sharp smack is better than bootting for your life but she was wrong.

I think it was a silly mistake she made, heat of the moment thing and no doubt she probably regrets it. We've all done stupid things. I don't condone it and it was entirely her fault but sometimes when under pressure we all do daft things.

She probably well knows she didn't give it a chance to get over the fence. It's obviously a tad inexperienced and she wanted to win. These things happen. It wasn't like she gave it a beating.

Good on Geoff Luckett though -love watching him in speed classes and so glad he won! Whatever happened to Marlene though??? Loved that horse!

She was an utter disgrace I thought. Everything that happened was down to rider error yet she chose to whip her horse.

She should be thoroughly ashamed of herself. Poor horse so did not deserve any of that.

Would everybody get a grip! She was riding in a speed class so the whole idea is to cut corners and jump at an angle. You have to remember the pressure on these riders from the owners is to win or at least ride competetively. Laura is a naturaly talented rider who showed her frustration with her horse on tv and in front of a large crowd, I dont think she deserves a public slagging off. I can assure you she is not the type of person to beat her horse up when she gets out of the ring.

Good God...how OTT can a thread get???

you have to realise that LR is PROFESSIONAL....she rides for a living, therefore, like it or not, guys, her horses are tools in her business..

they are trained as such, and therefore should perform as such.

if they don't, they get a smack..or two.

they are NOT pets..as the majority of the animals belonging to most on here....

GET A GRIP.........she has done NOTHING wrong.
