LauraWheeler.... how did it go?

Ahh thanks guys.
Well it wasn't an intervew as such we just had a chat and a look round the yard. It was a realy nice yard, the people seemed nice and the horses where georgous. I had to laugh as the woman said they take in problem horses and i would need to help with them. She said it in a way like she thought it would put me off.
I spoke to my OH who is not happy that it's a 6 day week but i explained to him that was horses. He has been spoilt in my current job as i have weekends off. I am ment to be doing a trial day a week on Tue but i need to ask them if my one day off would be a weekend day if it isn't my OH doesn't want me to take the job :( It sounds like a nice job and the pay wasn't bad either so i realy hope the day off is a weekend day but i highly dought it is. :(
Why are men sooooooo difficult  Although i can sort of see his point as we'd hardly get to see eachother. Oh i'm just so confused right now i just don't know what to do  It was all so much easyer when it was just me and Lucy :( :( :( :(

Wish i could but he works long hours mon - fri so we only get weekends. It would be diffrent if we lived together but i can't drive and the job is to far away from his to cycle :( also it's a 6am start

can you ask for one weekend off in three or four ? Sort of meet him half way ? If it's the right job for you, you should try and go for it - the change will be good for you. But that said, I guess your OH has to come first (did I say that ? OH's come BEFORE horses?? :D).Ok well maybe not :p

Hope you are doing ok today, love sm x

try and compromise but remember you dont know for sure what day it is yet so try no to worry before you know x
def ask if successful to have the day off every 2nd wknd or every 3rd x

Congrats on geting this far laura, you will be an asset to their yard.

As alfies mum says, dont worry before you know what the day off is. If its not a weekend you could maybe talk to them to see if its possible to have 1 day off every other weekend.

Really hope it all works out for you x

Thanks everyone. I tried phoning earlyer but i didn't get an answer so i don't know. she did say i can have some weekends off but i needed to let her know in advance so i don't think it is poss very often. They are a very buisy yard. As well as doing problem horses they break youngsters, have liverys, show m&ms, do dressage and stand 3 stallions. So i highly dought it's a weekend day off :(

I would still go for it! :D

Seriously though, if she has said you can have weekends off but only in advance, ask her now if you can have every 2nd/3rd/etc. weekend day off. Then you're only asking for one day off for the weekend, so make it clear you're able to work the other day of that weekend, if that makes sense? :p I'm sure then she'll feel happier about letting you have the day off.

You should definitey ask because otherwise you'll never know, so go for it! Best of luck and keep us informed :) xxxx

Go and work the trial day, show them how good you are, wait til they offer you the job THEN try and negotiate about days off. If they want you, they will hopefully be prepared to compromise.

Good luck!

They sound really nice, and sound like they are quite keen on you. Don't worry about the weekend days, and don't turn the job down before you have given it a go. If it doesn't work out you can always find something else, and have the experience of such a big yard to put on your CV. Plus, even if they are not keen on you having a weekend day off say every other week, maybe if they see how hard you work the rest of the time then they will know you deserve it. I would just say you are very interested in the job, but wouldn't be able to see your other half much if you couldn't have a weekend day off now and again, so could they consider trying to arrange something so it could work out for the best for everyone involved. I'm sure a compromise can be formed where everyone will be happy.

Go for the trial day and enjoy it, then see what happens and take it 1 step at a time.

Laura, dont let anyone take advantage of you, you have a lot to offer. Dont let it be one sided, compromises have to be made on both sides. You will be an joy to any one that employs you. Have faith in yourself.
