Today, for the first time, I had to dismount from Belle in the street. She hasn't been ridden for the past week and is in season but she was really good to tack up and to go up the street at first. The problem is that we turn up a driveway for our lesson which has some scary stuff on it and there is a skip just a tiny way further up the road... she's terrified of it. Anyway, I took a friend with me but Belle just would not follow her, we got within a few metres of the driveway and she was just turning round sharply in the street and leaping about, taking a few steps to go for home (but I could stop her). We've been up this driveway near the skip many times.

In the end we turned down a different drive to let cars past, it's a very busy village. Called my instructor out but Belle would not have any of it. In the end I had to dismount and half drag her (with lots of praise once we were going in the right direction!) on my instructor's advice. Then she was rather lively in our lesson and was afraid of electric fencing on the paddock next door. She heard a click from the fence, spun sideways when we were in a nice trot and I came straight off the side and landed on my bum. Got back on and managed a tiny bit of nice work in the end, then had a slightly skittish walk home.

Ho hum, not overly disheartened as there was no nastiness in it and no real harm done. Just a bit of a bummer... literally... my bottom/lower back hurts now! Plus it winded me a bit. Think I need a BP! My mum is totally disturbed and determined that we should sell her. *sighs*

Hot bath and Arnica ointment works wonders and you will feel a bit sore for a couple of days and put it down to just one of those days, they happen now and then as nobody human or equine are perfect everyday, just once in awhile

The only good thing about getting off Herbie is atleast he's only 12.3hh, so not to far to get back on. It is anoying when i have to get off when there is someone else human and/or equine with us. He should just follow anyone but then i think atleast he trusts me to get him past safe.
Well done for getting her passed hopefuly she will have lurnt she can't get away with being naughty. Although it does sound like she ws genuinly scared.
I have no report on Herbie today because i went to catch him and he would not cross the river. (He is now out in the watermeadow Lucy was in. while she is recovering from her foot abcess she can't go out there and Herbie is eating the grass down so Lucy doesn't get Lami when she goes back out) It is still to deep for mr to cross so if they don't cross it they can't be ridden. He came right over to the edge but would not cross he just stood there looking at me and to make things worse when i got back from work at 8pm to late to ride him he was stood at the gate

I nearly didn't tell her... but I wanted the sympathy. And thanks johnrobert!

I have attempted to numb the pain with margaritas but it's not been the most effective, hehe! I am going to hack Belle out on Sunday when the roads are a bit quieter and my mum can come with me. We haven't hacked properly for a while as she needed back shoes but now we have those on we can hopefully keep working on it.

It's very frustrating but it was fear, not naughtiness, so I can't really blame her. It's just annoying when she's now walked up that drive many many times and has also seen the skip a lot but she still can't handle it. I guess we'll get there eventually and will hopefully find another horse to hack out with us and that might make it a bit better for her. Just a bummer when we wanted a horse that hacked out fine alone! I was worried she would break free from me on the road and run home... she definitely considered it but I kept hold of her thankfully.

As for Herbie, that cheeky little bugger! He would make a great boyfriend for Belle... she likes the little ones.

You did very well today. You got her past and thats what matters. And you did it nicely. She needs to lurn to trust you. Finding another horse to ride out with will help you both.
On the bright side atleast it was fear and not just being a **** like Horrid.
Herbie would think he would be a lovely Boyfriend for Belle but he doesn't think he's little he thinks he's a big spanish stallion LOL.
Hope Belle goes better on Sun especialy when your mum is there.
