Can you use lawn weed killer on horse grazing? If it. Is safe how long o you need token the horses off after use? Can any one recommend one they have used with good results? I am mainly wanting to treat buttercups and docks, Resolva seems to treat these.

I think resolva will kill the grass too. Correct me if I'm wrong. I am using Sbk after it was reccomended on here. It's killing most weeds including creeping buttercup, lesser celandine, docks, hemlock, thistle and nettles.

As above SBK, which gives you instructions about how long to exclude animals, from memory I think it is 7 days. It does not affect your grass and when we did paddock we did sections and used electric fence to keep animals out for the Severn days.

It is very effective and works quickly.

You need to check out the ingredients - MCPA will kill most broadleaved weeks in grass (docks, nettles, thistles) but not buttercups, you need mecaprop for that. Look for one that has both, but an agricultural supplier told me a few years ago the garden versions of these herbicides are diluted versions of the agricultural version so not as effective and you will need more.

Best solution for buttercups is a few geese, my field was covered but none at all now thanks to the geese! They give you eggs and deter people from going into your field! They like the fleshy roots so pull them out with their beaks.

I've just moved house and I have never seen a patch of grass so covered in weeds. Losing the will with it, spent a fortune on weedkiller all ready and nothing working.

I have noticed this year that some of the products I have used for years have been changed to a liquid form and lost their strength! It is so frustrating, I am resorting to flame gun as it works immediately and you do not have to exclude animals. The replacement gas cannisters are not cheap though and have to watch I Don,t start a fire as one of our neighbours did last weekend and needed three fire engines. The SBK has however still worked thank goodness.

I have used the weed killer from the garden centre in my field its only £7 a pop, I had to increase the strength of it as first time round it did not kill the doc's. I do have a holding number but its nearly £40 a throw for graze on, I kept them off the treated grass for a fortnight and made sure it had rained.

I would love geese, I never knew they ate weeds.
Soltydog what weed killer was it from the garden centre and how big of a area did it cover?

If you are treating your grazing land for buttercups and dock, dicamba and MCPA are the chemicals you need to apply for those weeds. Look for products containing those herbicides. What you are looking for are selective herbicides, ones that kill specific weeds and not the grass.
