can you layer horse rugs ? like put a light weight under a medium weight rug...not planning on doing so but i remember when i had ponies when i was younger i was sometimes told to put two rugs on.

I am sure you can. I try not to but then mine are native and barely clipped so no real need. I'm always afraid it's going to slip but that's just me.

We used to use lots of layers but always found that the under rugs slipped back and pulled tight around the shoulders. If they aren't adjusted regularly it must be uncomfortable.
Now we tend to use just one thicker rug or the premier equine system with liners.

Just give some thought to how heavy and constricting layering turnouts might be!!
I have seen a TB with an under rug and two turnouts on..poor bugger could hardly move!! :(

I use layers and to be honesy mine dont mind, certainly dosent restrict there hooning around. Just make sure they fit really well and you check them regularly...

My fully clipped boy is in a lightweight turnout with a mediumweight over the top. Hes still out 24/7 wont start coming in at nite until it gets colder usually start of december.

Yeah I do it.. I've ordered a new medium weight standard neck but it hasn't arrived yet so my tb is out with a 140g with a rain sheet over the top. If we get really cold weather I often layer stable rugs.

I did it for my arthritic mare when the temp dropped -0, only because the only HW rug I have has lost it's front fastenings, she is currently in a MW and
has the choice to be in or out, I'm shopping on my first day off for a HW for her
