so I've had my mare about 5 months now & have never caught her laying down, nor has anyone else down the yard & there's 13 other liverys.

just sneeked down the yard after being out this evening thinking I'd catch her out but nooooooooo she's the only one who isent laying down :/

I have no idea why I want to catch her laying down guess its just the fact I had noticed I never have :p

She might not be totally relaxed in her new pastures yet? And when she is she is likely to lay down. I have the opposite extreme - my new horse is always laying down when I got to catch him in - but he has come from a fairly large herd (of half a dozen youngsters), to just him and an elderly pony, so am guessing he is feeling pretty relaxed now - and he has gone from a couple of acres of little grass, to a 6 acre field of plenty - so he is scoffing, and when the belly is full, collapses! Have you seen your horse roll? I always think that is an indication of well being. I get V worried when my don't, as usually this is an indication of something hurting. When I used to race mine - the day after a race, I would turn them out - and if they did not roll, I knew to get the back lady in pronto......I had a horse once, who seemed to take an 'easy' fall in a race, who did not roll for several months - quite clearly he had torn all sorts of ligaments and muscles, and whilst he never trotted up unsound, intuitively I knew he was not right and we gave him 6 months off, and lots of attention from a chiropractor.......

Can you tell if she lays down when no one is around. I have one I have never seen lie down, but I know she does. The odd flat poo and bedding in her mane and tail.

I've seen her roll twice since I've had her, but then I don't spend massive amounts of time down the yard. She's always messy when she comes in so that's gotta be a good sign.

she's has had a rocky start since I got her tbh, she started weaving, then had some skin problem, now she's got thrush, she's had a problem with her wolf teeth. So shes probs not feeling at her best atm.

she deffo have been down though, like you say I've seen the odd flat poo extra. :)

going to have to install a camera I reckon :p

We've owned our boy for over 4yrs & only caught him laying down for the first time last month!

He was in the field & I panicked thinking something was wrong, but no he was just snoozing! The daughter made the most of it & had half an hour having a snuggle with him

She was so happy she finally got a pic of her with him like this as he is going soon. I'm sure you will find yours one day when you least expect it :D

My vet had a laugh at my lot the other night when he was treating a colic. Mine all layed down curled up in their banked sides but in easy reach of their hay!
