Lazy horse owners! Grrrrr

If there is a yard manager is it not their job to oversee the yard, to check everything is done as rules state and in my view to make sure that owners are caring for their horses, it may be DIY but I feel that yard owners or managers should be able to ensure the horses on a yard have a certain standard of care.

DITTO! she normally is quite good and is normally at the yard or a phone call away..

I do hope you mean it IS THERE JOB:confused::)

His bed is a mess and he looks in really bad condition!

I'm i being silly or should I say something because this is not the first time that she has forgotten to put her horse to bed.

Sorry if you've said this elsewhere - but you need to speak with the YO about this.

There is no excuse for the horse to be in bad condition - and the YO needs to step in and take some action.

What Amy May said. This is a situation where the YO HAS to intervene. Otherwise you will continue to be taken advantage of and the horse continues suffering.

We had a similar situation at my yard that only ended when the YO gave the "no show" horse owner a very serious talk/ultimatum, and finally the owner loaned the horse to someone responsible and committed to its care.

It turned out the "irresponsible" owner was actually having health problems and didn't tell anyone, so it was complicated, but either way the horse still suffers until a solution is found. :(

I spoke to the horse owner this morning and when I asked her who was doing her horse last night she said it was her and when I asked where she was she said she 'forgot'!!!??!!

I then told her that if it wasn't for me he would still be out and he wouldn't have been touched. I also told her that if she wanted me to carry on bringing him in for the night she would have to pay me upfront and that on weekends he would be souly her responsibility. Also told her that she can keep taking advantage of the fact that people won't leave him out as she will then be charged full livery prices for the whole month.

Spoke to YM as well and she said exactly what you all have said that she knows that if she doesn't do it someone else will pick up her slack and she only didn't answer her phone because she knew what it would of been about.

I really can't stand people like this!! How they are allowed to have horses I do not know!!! Sooo frustrating!!!!!

Have one here. It's very frustrating. Person works long hours on certain days. We all pitch in to give hay and water ect because it's for the horse. But none of us are allowed to handle her horse because he's speshial. I won't go into all details but I feel very sorry for this horse because the owner makes him out to be something he's not. Never asks of we will give him hay and water just assumes. I would love to let loose on her or on here but what's the point. I've said things here and there and it's pointless. I do know that he is amazing to put up with so much crap. One of mine would have self destructed by now. And if they didn't they would be absolute idiots to handle.

I feel like posting the basic 5 freedoms of horses on her door as lined out by Animal Welfare.
