Lazy people-HELP!!!!!

I work at a private yard every sunday. I get paid £20 for m/o x 3, m/o fields and general yard work, plus riding if I wish. Another girl does the same/gets the same on saturdays.

My YO is away ATM and when I went to the yard on sunday, I found Bondi's bed had had no top up bedding in it and he had been basically sleeping on concrete. The bed had no banks either. Hannah's bed, by contrast had had an extra blae of bedding shoved on top of the shite that was already there. All that had been done on the previous day was a skip out.

The fields werent mucked out (its done daily) and the horses had the wrong feeds and their feet hadnt been picked out either.

If these were my horses I would be absolutely hopping mad, and TBH I was on sunday.

What do I do? I have written it all down but feel a bit out of order for dobbing the girl in. At the same time though, I am thinking of the horses welfare!

What would any of you do?

I would take the girl asside and tell her what you noticed. It may well be enough for her to realise that is was very obvious and you spotted her corner cutting straight away.

FWIW I think I'd have been mad too if I had to organise it all again to the usual standard after that.

Can you have a word with the saturday girl first and ask if everything was OK as you noticed some things weren't finished? Then if she'd had a family emergency say, you could maybe let it go if it was a one off for a fair reason.

If not, keep a note of what was wrong and see if it happens again this week and then go to YO?

Speak to the girl and make sure she actually understands what she's supposed to do. Then if she still does a sheddy job, dob her in.

I dont mind setting it all back to usual standard as its the horses I'm thinking of but this isn't the first time its happened(should have mentioned that before) and I have mentioned to her about it before but I think I'm gonna tell YO now. Its just not on.

Well apart from the horses welfare- i dont think thats really the issue as none of these things would be too detrimental just for a day, its bloody unfair on you and the owners.
The owners are paying for what sounds like a pretty good service but not getting it and as for you, you work hard then have a day off and have to work double sorting out the crap thats been left for you.
I'd have a word with the y/o but ask him/her not to say it was you that pointed it out as you dont want to cause bad feeling.

Hope you work it out, its really not at all fair.

Hmm difficult . I would be livid if I was paying for someone to do the horse and it wasn't getting done. There may of been a reason the saturday girl hadn't done them properly. Can you speak to her ? If she hasn't got a valid reason,explain to her the error of her ways and that next time the YO is away and she doesn't do what she is supposed to do you will tell the YO she hasn't done the work she is being payed for

Agree with hellspells. If you can contact her, have a quiet word and find out if there was a genuine reason for such slap dash work (maybe she was sick and sent someone else to cover) or whether she just couldn't be arsed. Is it the first time it has happened? Point out to her that you had to rectify everything and aren't happy about it.

Ah, not the first time then. Tell the YO and say you are fed up with covering for her so that his yard doesn't get a bad name with clients. Alternatively, wait until next time and take photos too, THEN talk to YO.

This isn't directed at you HH , just a general rant as I feel like sh!t !

This is why I HATE doing the yard for my YO .. I currently am this week and i'm already sick to the back teeth of people criticising everything I do (fwiw my horse IS kept to a high standard and so are the horses in my care as i've worked on yards before) but I start to seethe when people decide its okay to shriek at me when things aren't done 'their' way when there horse is on livery - I wasn't aware I had to follow their specific routine. Drives me insane especially when i'm doing 6 hours a day for about 90p and hour as its a 'favour'

Its just that every other week when YO *IS* there, the stables get done fine and I have no issues on on sunday whatsoever.

It just seems like a sort of while the cats away thing.....which I dont mind, as long as the horses are done! God I sound like such a bore don't I!!

In that case I'd just give her a gentle nudge and take it up with her not with the YO

Could you somehow trick the girl into thinking the yard owner will be away one sunday when infact they are not and so then the yard owner can see for themselves what a bad job the girl is doing?
