Hi all,

I'm looking to buy some replacement saddlepads as a present for my daughter (lack of horse knowledge on my behalf so be kind!).

I'm looking at replacing her everyday quilt square and possibly the full wool numnah too. I don't want it to affect the fit of the saddle obviously which is why I wanted to replace the same styles she already has.

I've been looking at some Le Mieux ones and also Nuumed pads. I don't mind paying more if I'll get better quality... what would people recommend?

I absolutely am hooked on the Le Mieux, I've just ordered another three and sold three of my non Le Mieux to make room for them. I have dressage and Close contact styles. They do the most amazing colours and are superb quality.

I am also a massive fan of Lemieux!! Much softer wool than nuumed. I also like their normal pads - I have a gorgeous blue one that looks lovely on my blue and white!

Its been a while since i bought nuumed because I always felt the le mieux quality far superior. Won't have any other saddle pad now.

I have to confess I love the LeMieux and own many of they products but when it comes to their sheepskin saddle pads, they're too fluffy, affected the fit of my saddle and I found it slippy, I've gone back to my trusted half lined nuumed numnah.
Ensure you get the real sheepskin if going for nuumed but doesn't affect fit of my saddle and wicks away sweat as it should and is comfortable.

NuuMed is a British product and only ever shorn wool sewn into a knitted backing, LeMieux is merino so not UK (and anyone into animal welfare merino is an interesting product) and has both wool and sheepskin, many people on here will have their lambskin which is thicker, and soft, their wool product as only recently been introduced as far as I know. For sheepskin I way prefer Mattes, also British sheepskin (though manufactured in EU). It is very thick!

I would also choose Mattes for sheepskin.

I like the LeMieux saddle pads (non-sheepskin) but I have a Nuumed one with my saddle which is wearing very well. I tried LeMieux once and had some problems with it slipping, but others with the same saddle haven't so I would be willing to try again another day.

Even though the le mieux feels softer, I prefer the nuumed. Mainly because the nuumed is real wool on a fabric and therefore more breathable and easier to wash. Beware some real sheepskins as they are actually lots of pieces sewn together (which you can't tell by looking, but cause seams and therefore pressure points.)

I don't have a sheepskin but I have used both Nuumed and LeMiuex plain saddle cloths. The LeMieux saddle cloths fitted both my horses better than the Nuumed.

I ditched a lemieux girth sleeve for exactly that reason. However imo nuumed have a shelf life. With time, loose hairs work through the backing and form clumps. Another pressure point. I brushed mine out religiously and it still happened. Mattes all the way for me now!
