Are the le mieux vector balance worth the hype?

Got a youngster I'm going to back next year & looking at safety stirrups. Other makes are a bit eye-watering on the purse.

I love mine. Find them really comfortable and can confirm that the safety feature worked perfectly when I had an unplanned dismount!!

Are the spikes on the tread really spikes? I've read they can pierce the soles of riding boots which is the only thing stopping me buying them until I see in the flesh. I don't like cheese grater treads as they shredded a sole x

We have them, my daughter rides in them. She hasn't complained and they don't seem to have damaged any boots?

We had the tech stirrups for a while, they are sooo heavy! Much prefer these and they do open in cases of falls etc. They are really lightweight.

Thank you 😊
It's the spikes putting me off, think I'll bite the bullet & purchase a pair

I was worried about this before buying but I’ve had no problem with them and they’ve definitely not damaged my boots.

Just search them, or even just stirrups, on here, it's discussed periodically. There are no universally magic stirrup designs, each person, and probably also on each horse/saddle combo rather than all the horses and saddles they ride, need a different solution. All depends on the issues :)

Thank you, I'm worried about my foot getting stuck should I fall, also my foot is prone to slipping out current plain irons. looking at backing my youngster next year & want to cover all safety aspects as I'm not getting any younger 🤣

There are loads of safety stirrups, it's the other aspects - do you shove your heels down too hard? Do your knees move too much or do they pinch into the saddle to stabilise you? Do you have contact under the inner part of the ball of your foot? Is your foot stable inside to outside? I know it seems OTT but if more people looked at these sorts of questions when trying to buy stirrups, or solve lower leg issues, we'd have less wasted money :)

Do you know why your feet tend to slip out of the stirrups? I recommend different saddles, on horse and off horse biomechanics trainers all the time to help people optimise their own bodies, I suspect something needs fixing somewhere else, that stirrups won't solve it. I DO always suggest larger treads where possible as they do help with proprioception (knowing where our body is in space).

My heels tend to drop naturally, never see them up. I also tend to grip with knees at times which is why I lose the stirrup. Also my feet are very odd - all my toes except big one all sit up on a ledge & not like normal toes. I think this affects my balance too.

I think working with an off horse coach might really help you - I work with @equimech and @pilates at blue house (both FB pages though they have websites), we really do need to bring our A game to our horses, more than we realise, and both those are lovely ladies with massive skill sets. I have foot exercises from both of them (and I don't even ride these days)! I'm often looking at how feet sit in stirrups, @equimech will be doing some work looking at foot function and stirrup design and working out who needs which sort of design, worth a follow on FB!

Gripping with the knees - so common and so many causes - your saddle may not be helping you, you need support under the whole thigh (may riders lack this for various reasons to do with horse shape and saddle design) but also for everything else to be stable enough to not need to grip, also hugely down to horse and saddle, not just you ☺️

I think they are outwith my budget
We didn't like ours Tech ones, they weighed loads, looked big on the saddle and opened almost too easily to be honest, especially for kids who may have bouncy feet! Definitely not worth the price tag! Sold them and got some Vector Balance instead x

I have 2 pairs (two saddles). I wanted the flexons but hated the price. I haven’t been disappointed with the vectors.

So comfy, light and secure.
