Hi all!

I realise that I should probably know the difference but I don't... So I decided to ask you good people for advice: What is the difference between Lead Rein and First Ridden?? Only to do with ponys or not? A discipline or not really?

Thanks for helping me solve the mistery...

As it sounds really. A lead rein pony is ridden by a small child and led by an adult. A first ridden pony is ridden by child and has to give an individual show without adult assistance. The whole class walk and trot together but each child only shows canter during their individual show.

And they dont canter in lead rein.

Some lead rein ponies wont do first ridden and some first riddens are too forward for lead rein. If you can find a pony to do both they are worth their weight in gold

We have just bought one that does both and were interviewed and "selected" as the home for him from amongst countless people who wanted him based on his show record and what a reliable yet sparkling first ridden he is. Poor pony is having to slum it at pony club starting next week but we will have him out with my 6yo on the lead rein at BSPS and NPS once I get around to getting a daft outfit for me and matching jacket for son!

He is just the cutest, dinkiest little thing - I'm not entirely sure if he was bought for son or my mother and I to pamper!

i have just bought one that does both too
