Lead Rein - What shirt?

I am taking Ted (and a little rider) in a few lead rein classes, I'm going to wear my hacking jacket and get little rider a matching one, I'll also be in a navy skirt and navy velvet floppy hat

However what sort of shirt am I supposed to wear? Do I have to get a stupid high frilly one or can I get away with normal shirt and tie or and I supposed to wear a scarf matching my riders tie? I'm so confused! I've attached a picture of the jacket by the time the shows come the collar will of been covered in navy velvet

That shirt is fine, a stock tie or just a small smart tie would be fine. I've seen some women wearing skirts (long not mini!!) but that is more summer shows.

If you don't want to wear a jacket, you could wear a waistcoat and trousers?

I also have a canary shirt which I use for in-hand, would that be more correct?

Either shirt should be fine, try and match to the childs for a smart look, then wear a stock or a tie that is the same as childs. I would avoid a floppy hat, something tweed to match your jacket would look smarter.

Thank you, I managed to snaffle one up on ebay for just under £8 because they had made a spelling mistake in the title!

That hat looks perfect . Is 'little rider' a boy or girl ?
Ribbons and plaits for a girl and I remember one very smart lad with a button -hole flower. Also don't forget their jodphur clips, I remember a class where it came down to just that and keep them smiling the judge will notice!
We were never that good at the leading rein classes as having a hairy sec A she really didn't stand much of a chance against some of the plaited show ponies. It was good experience though and now my daughters favourite class is young handler.

Personally I would not wear a hacking jacket/shirt/tie with a skirt, be more inclined to find a tidy little jacket that blends in with jockeys colours and your tweed hat. (Try Edinburgh Woolen Mill). With tweed however, no buttonhole for the jockey, no pretty browbands or coloured numnah, and plain tack. Best thing that both of you can wear, is a big smile! Good Luck.

Little rider is a girl, very well balanced seat and getting there with her hands except she isn't confident off the lead yet. I would rather not spend a fortune on a lead rein jacket as I don't think we'll be doing lead rein for long
