Leading horses on the road - 3 horses & 1 person?? Madness.

What they are doing is extremely dangerous not only to their horses but also to other members of the public. They clearly have got no feelings to the welfare and safety of their horses.

A word to them by the local rural police officer should set them right and hopefully he will also remind them that as a result of a recent court case they should have third party public liability insurance to the level of no less than £10,000,000 (Ten Million Pounds) so that in the event of their horses causing an accident they are covered.

Sorry, but i would not be able to "relax" as some have put it if I'd seen that. Well done you for stopping to help.

If you want to lead 3 horses on private land go ahead but on a road? That's just irresponsible.

And why is everyone saying about "well known professionals" not wearing hi-viz at home? What does that have to do with the matter?

I saw this post earlier, and am still unsure whether I should reply, don't want to cause a war! But, I have led our three horses (2x16hh & 1X14hh) from our farm to our other field which is about 200yards down the road. The road is a wide country road, and relatively quiet.
I know all my horse inside out, and know how to hold them; in which hands to maximise control. So far, never ever had a problem, they are always immaculately behaved. There is always that potential 'what if' 0.1% chance with horses, but if I know and trust my horses, don't see how it is any more dangerous than riding out.

The original tale does sound a bit more dangerous though, like I say, our road is quiet, and that one sounds much busier? I wouldn't dream of doing it on a busy road.

Must add as well, the cob stays out 24/7, as no one rides him, so I only take all three just the one time when we are switching fields :D

I would report it to the police and say how concerned you are years ago we had a very nasty car accident caused by just this type of thing ,we were towing a trailer with pony in to an evening show jumping comp along a very busy road ,a girl coming the other way wa sleading two horses and had a dog too ,dog ran in road when horses spooked car coming from behing her swerved to miss dog and hot us taking trailer off our car an dit ended up sat on its ramp with poor pony in a heap ,we all had slight injuries could have been really bad pony was so lucky to escape with cuts and bruises ,it is stuid and irresponcible what she is doing .

I have never led three off the ridden horse but every day I'd take the hunters out riding one and leading two - they were great never had any problems with them. I had four horses to look after so each day one would have a day off unless all were hunting at the weekend. Sometimes I had a young lad that would come in and ride the quietist one.

I used to take them on to the Icknield way and gallop the three - they were angels. Then once off the bridle path trot them steadily up the hill all the way to the top - about 1½miles of hill. They were fit!

God you cant believe some people, and I mean the poster on here, although the idiot with the horses defies belief as well.

Roads are dangerous enough for horses if the owners do it right, but idiots like this deserve what they get. The trouble is their poor horses and other road users dont.

I would be having a quiet word with the local police too.
