Hi just want to know is there any tips or legal stuff I need to know about taken a horse out walks where I would need to go along a road please as horse can't be ridden but likes going out on walks and I would like to try a new route thanks

Don't know about legal stuff but even though you're not riding don't forget your high vis! Probably obvious to everyone but I always forget! Also I think you have to have a bridle on your horse when on a public road although I'm not certain.

What if the horse has not yet been bitted to wear a bridle ? just curious as we walk our filly ( 14 months old ) out on a quiet country lane .

I too *think* it's law to have a bit on the roads.... Although then I wonder if I'm mistaken and how Bitless bridles work?!
Pretty sure head collars are illegal

And just to be an elf and safety person, don't forget hat and gloves :)

Would recommend a bridle, but a head collar should be ok.

I think there is road ' advice' about a bridle , but not sure if it is the law

It isn't the law that the horse has to have a bit in it's mouth, but if that is what is best for you to know that you are in control of your horse you should definitely use a bridle and a bit. As said above, walk so that you are in between the horse and the traffic and high viz for you and the horse.

The highway code mentions bridle, however, what constitutes a bridle is anyone's guess. I don't think those who wrote this half assed advice knew what they were talking about, let alone what a can of worms this is.

Thank you horse is 14 and only been ridden a few times but is long reined and lead out most days of the week he has sore shoulder muscles right now that are being treated but he can still be lead out on walks and he loves going exploring so do I so would like to try new routes I always lead out in a bridle and hi viz so thank you for the other replays sorry about spelling on a tablet and the thing is a nightmare to type on

I always lead in a bridle now, with hi-viz on both me and pony. I also wear a hat and gloves and if I know I'm going on tricky roads, I wear a body protector too :)
