*** sorry new to this & autocorrect changed leasing to leading & now I can't change it :( ***

Sorry if this has been done to death but I was hoping to lease a vehicle to tow - does anyone know if this is doable?
In an ideal world I'd buy a discovery or similar but unfortunately I don't have that sort of money in a pot so need some sort of finance deal (could consider buying on finance if that is the only option).
Does anyone also have recommendations on towing vehicles that don't cost the earth? Need to be 4WD but if it can only tow 1 horse I could cope with that, although ideally 2!
Desperate for my horsey freedom so any help is welcome :) thank you in advance!

We investigated a Mitsubishi L200 on lease or finance. It was lovely and the dealers were very helpful. But we ended up realising that the mileage restriction would be just too tight and it was a bit too much money wise but we nearly went for it. We bought an older but still sound Disco in the end. But you do always feel like you have to keep praying to the breakdown gods when you've not got a new car.

I had a leased Audi Q5, it was fabulous for towing, auto, and did everything as a family car too. But it was very expensive, and I didn't renew the lease. We are wAiting for a Mitsubishi L200 due in Feb, about half the price.

Great thanks - one of my concerns was surrounding having a tow bar put on - how did that happen? I've read some places that you need to get it out on yourself & then remove it at the end of the lease? Sorry very new to this!

Yes B+E - my concerns were more around the restrictions on using the car for towing / having a tow bar put on. Thanks though, I will look at the link 😊

eBay is your friend. Our last 2 cars, SWB Shoguns have both been eBay bargains. Our latest, a 2006 model was $3400 (sorry that is pounds sterling but no pound sign on this keyboard!) tows like a dream, great condition & they took the old one as a trade in & we got back what we paid for it. 3 tonne towing limit & a proper solid 4 x 4

I would be wary of leasing, you have to return the vehicle in the same condition as you got it and a person i know recently had a lucky escape from a scam they tried on with her. Better to buy a good second hand vehicle. The L200's are nice as are the Shoguns which are excellent towing vehicles.

You can request that the dealer fit a tow bar and the cost will be bundled into the total price and you leave it on at the end. If you fit it yourself then you would need to remove it at the end and make it good before returning it.

Why lease and not standard HP ? at least with HP you will build up some equity in the vehicle. Lease is only really relevant for business customers who wish to use that form of finance for tax reasons. On a lease you can never legally own the vehicle were as on HP you are the legal owner.

Leasing is for the commercially retarded. Not sure of your consumer credit laws in the UK but in Aussie they have to be transparent. If you drop it into a spreadsheet so you can move the model around you will discover that there is no possible way this is a good deal for you.

Whikst you have the spreadsheet out model various scenarios using cash and a car loan (if you have to). Run your models over 3 years and 5 years. Any longer and they start to get a bit odd as you have to make some pretty crazy assumptions on depreciation and maintenance as well as exit value.

Please don’t lease.
