Leahurst / Equine Hospital Experiences?

All the best with your girl.

A friend's cob was an in patient for about 3 weeks at Leahurst about 10 years ago (recurrent tooth and sinus infection). She didn't visit him, but I did in her place and reported back to her. I was able to graze him in hand in one of their turnout paddocks and generally make a fuss of him.

I agree with other posters who advise you not to visit yourself, have you got a friend who could pop in instead? My friend cleared it with Leahurst to expect me to visit in her place as understandably they don't want randomers on the yard.

The care was very good (though they weren't able to solve the problem permanently).

My girl spent a week at the Dick Vets following choking / aspiration pneumonia and I couldn't fault them. I wasn't able to visit as they're two hours away and I was working full time so simply couldn't get up but the vet phoned me every day t give me an update and let me know how she was going. Was highly impressed with the initial assessment - a swarm of vet students took over and did a full obs / cannulate / blood work and get her unrugged and into the stocks while I spoke with the senior vet who then explained everything they were doing and the test results as they were done (eg ultrasound lungs/belly).
The boxes were imaculate and once she was well enough she was handwalked every day for a little grass to encourage her to eat as she took her time to start eating again. She came out looking amazing - she was podgy when she went in but 3 days of not eating dropped her down nicely. She was calm and relaxed when we picked her up and even tho we were quite late down on the friday to pick her up the senior vet hung around to talk to me and go through her after care.

One thing I found was that they didn't want any of her things left - they have their own head collars etc they use.
