Anyone having problems with leaking premier equine turnouts? We have brought up to 50 rugs over past few years for our retired horses here as they are good for the' larger build' BUT........this year I have had quite a few leak badly, just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem, I have written to them to give them my feedback,

The rainsheet I had started to leak but only it heavy rain I had had it for a few years so I feel I got ny money's worth/use for it. Didn't bother to try getting it re proofed. Bought and amigo and kept the p.e one as a spare

Never had a problem with PE rugs especially the heavyweight ones; I love them! I also use Rambo wugs and the Bucas Smartex and Sunshower which also perform well :)

I have just had a problem with 2 lightweight PE rugs, bought them back end of last year and used only 3 times and used them again 2 days ago and they may as well have been made of paper.

Other 2 horses - one in an Amigo LW and the other in a Weatherbeeta LW were dry.

A little annoyed as they were just under £70 each, will end up reproofing them myself and hopefully that will work, I have the Trio rugs and they have been fine although they do seem to absorb alot of water and I struggle to lift them when wet!

Would have sent them back but because I bought them last year I don't see them doing anything about it.
Could ring them I suppose.

I too have had to reproof both my light turn out rugs, one PE, as despite paying for washing and reproofing, my horse has been soaked to the skin. Not impressed!

Yeah, my Trio system outer is leaking behind the shoulder this year. PITA as has been my favourite rug up til now.

Why don't you ring them and see what they say - I've always found their customer service superb. Might be worth a try.

hmm
I have to say that both the PE and the Weatherbeeta's leaked in the recent torrential rain - only the horse wear ones seem truly dry !

Reproofing a leaking rug will not make them water proof, only shower proof.
Reproofing helps maintain the natural water resistancy in the rug and if that has broken down, or poor the rug will still leak, more so in heavy rain.

i f you have new or nearly new rugs, that are letting in the water, go back to manufactuer tell them when and where purchased and amount of use, they will want to keep a good name so should be helpful.
some rugs have batch numbers on their labels, so this will help them keep track of a bad batch.
:)

Just contacted Premier Equine regarding a leaking rug (200x) bought about three weeks ago. I have a 300 which has always been waterproof so was incredulous that the 200x was absorbent! I immediately got a phone call in return to my email and they are going to replace by exchange in the morning. Superb customer service. Can't quite understand why there is a continuing problem with the waterproofing - I see posts to this effect going back to 2008. They have such a good product it is a real shame. It must be something to do with inadequate proofing of the material.

Actually PE dealt with the situation well and have given me 50 per cent off any of their rugs in the future as I buy alot if rugs from them for my retirement home

Only rugs I have found waterproof in the recent weather have been my cobs rambo ones.He has the wug and the duo and been out 24/7 in all the weather and been dry as a bone at all times.

Don't think I will bother to buy anything else now TBH and intend to kit my appy out in rambo soon as funds permit!!

PE are normally pretty good as I understand it though, maybe just a bad batch?? Give them a call and make a fuss, also point them in the direction of this thread as seems others are having issues this year and could be something in their manufacture process that they need to address??
