How did you learn and remember where each letter is within the dressage area ?

Also any tips for remembering and learning tests without stopping and reading the test whilst riding :D

Quick mnemonic. Going clockwise from A: All King Edward's Horses Can Manage Big Fences. No tips about memorising the tests though I'm afraid - I just get my OH to test me on them.

I learn them by the patterns not the letters. Dressage Diagrams is a great website for tests.

I'm frequently to be found "trotting & cantering" round the front room!

The other thing to do is to learn say half the test at a time.

I do: All King Edward's horses can't manage barley feed. Dunno, works for me!

Remembering tests - get people to read it to you when you're riding, or do it on foot in a small space with the test in your hand. Once you've done it a few times, it sticks.

Thats how i learnt it!!
When i learn a test i get someone to call it for me a cppl of times at home to ride thru then read thru a cppl of times before i go to sleep the night before the comp and it just sinks in!! Read thru it on the way to comp and i seem to remember them!! :)

Any tips for 20x60 arenas? I'm ok with 20x40 but the long arena ones really confuse me, even though I ride in a long arena most days!!

Best way i find is looking A end start at M and go RSVP in a square going left so from M across school to H then down long side to K then back across school to F! If that makes sense!! :)

Not really as my head's all befuddled with a cold! But I'll take a look tomorrow when I'm riding and I'm sure it will make sense :D

I've always remembered the letters as: A Fat Bay Mare Can Hardly Ever Kick :D

As for remembering tests I do a little chunk at a time and then string it together, I will then be seen trotting and cantering round my lounge on my imaginary horse :D

I,m a learn by pattern person, by repeatable drawing it using coloured pencils. Mellow yellow for walk, workman green for trot and RED for danger canter, with stripes if needed for extras. Probable only works up to Novice.
Young pony club girl nearly fell off her horse laughing at me when I told her!!

Learn patterns not letters. Seems a bit silly at first, but I find it easier to visualize where to aim in a test if I know what pattern is coming up.

I memorise the letters as AKE, Fake, Bake, Make, Cake, Hake, though I am abit random, no one else ever gets my method when I try to teach it to them!

I find learning tests fairly easy, they generally contain lots of mirror movements (so if you do something on one rein it is highly likely you'll also have to do it on the other rein!) So just learn what the main movements are then learn where you change rein and pace inbetweeen = easy! (Well most of the time anyway!)

All King Victors Extra Special Horses Can Manage Really Big Parallel Fences.

I just cut all the extra stuff out of a test, for exaple..
Enter at A in Trot, C Track Right, MBF, Working Trot, C 20m circle right...
All that really is is Centre line, go Right circle at C.. i used to find rewriting the whole test simplified helped me, but i dont have a problem anymore.

The way I rememebr the letter layout.

20x40: All King Edward's Horses Couldn't Make Big Fences
20x60 (don't laugh at the fact it doesn't make sense, I thought of it when I was about 11/12!): All King Vincent Edward's Show Horses Couldn't Make Really Big Proper Fences

As for remembering tests, I only usually have to read it through once or twice to learn it... if only revising for my exams was that easy!!

i could never remember any of the conventional rhymes...

until I tried to come up with my own and all i could think of was

All King Edwards Horses Can Make Big Farts :o:o:o:o

i remember them now:p
