I learned it from this post a while ago. Amerb's rubs suddenly appeared again overnight last week. I'll just wait it out, she's not clipped and it resolved when her summer coat comes through.

Mine used to - hasn't the last couple of years. I had started making sure didn't use the same saddle pad all the time, that regularly washed the saddle pad or didn't use the the same quarter sheet in case the top of that rubbed a bit, but have used the same saddle pad all this winter and no rubs. Normally get the saddle checked in March/April when he is getting fitter. Years ago had a horse who had rubs on his shoulders from the rug and one of the older show riders told me to put cooking oil on them...was very messy but I suppose it gives some nice slippery cover.

I've known this for quite awhile, but I'm not sure if it's common knowledge.

Used to happen with my last horse. Not from the reins though. LeMieux Sensitive pads helped or some sort of sheepskin directly on the back.

Interesting, the fitter I had out last year made a big thing about the rub marks, but then they fitted pony with a saddle that made her bronk soooo....

I've had this issue at this time of year when using lemieux saddlepads. I now always use PolyPads or Nuumed wool saddlecloths and don't have the issue.

Something I was told in the ‘70’s when my first pony had rubs from the reins. No saddle rubs because his leather saddle never saw a numnah or pad!

Yup, I called the saddler the first time Bertie‘s coat did this in the new year. Now realise that it happens same time each year, in the same spot, mild hair loss but not sore etc.
