I think this was brought in after a rider (not judge) was badly injured in a show ring fall, and the horse happened to be unshod.
Hm, I have been at County Shows and been quite surprised at the number of shod/fronts only horses going past on their way to the ring.

A friend of mine hit the floor in the ring and went skidding under the ropes with his horse, not sure if they had studs but they would have had shoes.

According to a conversation I heard yesterday at Blair if the WH class is under Sports Horse GB rules the horses must be shod but no surgical / remedial shoes or pads are allowed.

I can see SHGB losing a fair few competitors then, in the future. I was planning to have mine overstamped with them after I've got this years last show out of the way. But like I say, I'm not too bothered as I'd prefer studs anyway, but clearly others it isn't going to work for.

What a stupid rule. Surely it should be down to the competitor as to whether to compete shod or not!
