took Pony out today. decided to ride and lead as he needs to get out more and hes still not muscled up enough and he needs to see more things. hes only just 4. took someone on foot and will do for the first few times until im sure they are okay together then were off. i also sat on him today. and he just stood there so for a pony thats been with us for 3 days, hes brilliant. and is very settled. i love him :)

Gorgeous boy! What are your plans for him? Oh and what name did you go for in the end?

haha oh the name :( nothing suits him, me and OH wrote a long list of all the names we love and none of them work. so i think we are sticking to Penn (short name). the only name thats stuck with me is Pony (lol) but he will stay as a penwyn. my plans are to back him and bring him on, then advertise for a younger lighter rider to come and have some lessons on him and compete him. (lets face it, i am far to big to do anything with him as much as id love too)

What a cutie pie - I bet he is going to be a great little allrounder! x

he is adorable and very spoilt :) he will made a fab allrounder. hes got an impressive jump too. cant wait to get started properly with him. do some inhand shows this summer and get him muscled up.

Ditto the above! Looks really cute.

Your pics look as though he led fine from the other pony..

With our ride and leads, I find that you need a lead horse that is confident and moves from your leg well if you need to move them over etc.

Make sure you're not on busy roads if poss., or somewhere that the horses usually canter!

I used to find that the youngsters (3/4) led much better in a headcollar than a bridle, as they didn't get their teeth knocked by the bit if they pulled back for some reason - and you can knot the rope if you need to hang on!

he was a very good boy, and so was Rupert (the Bigger ginger lad). Tbh, rupert is nearly 18 and i could only describe him as a 'wise old man' haha ive lead a 17.2hh crazy mare from him and he just continued to plod bless him. im opposite, i prefere to lead from a bridle, i find that i have more control then in a head collar, and they learn to stay next to me and not fall behind. but i also know others who lead better from a headcollar, i guess its just personal prefrence :)

I've found that the young ones love going out on the lead with their older friends and it really makes them easier in the future

I'd put the led pony on the other side though, so if a car comes, he's not got his bum in the road.

I use a coupling chain under their chin attached to either side of the bit.... and put a knot in the end of the lead rope so it can't slip through my hand

I take my Shetland out a lot in this way, and could never lead him off a headcollar, he's too strong!

He loves it though and jogs along beside all jolly and pleased with himself!!

our horses love it too. i only know a handful of people who exersize horses in this way though, and i find it so much fun! just to add aswell, we were actually leading from the right side but there was a scary pile of chicken wire rolled up, que pony to leap around and run behind (me limbowing under the leadrope) and he ended up that side. but because we wernt touching roads on that ride (the road you see me on is a track road to a fishing lake and its rarely used) he stayed there. i wouldnt normally lead on this side either. but all in all, i think this method of exersizing is perfect for youngsters and people should do it more :)

They are both soooooo cute. Hope my youngster takes to riding and leading as well as your little lad has, looks like he's been doing that forever from the photos.
