Good evening,

I was looking into the possibility of leasing a thoroughbred mare to race two or three times for my University Society during the winter months on the All Weather.

I would be interested in a breakdown on a rough financial quote to get this underway and any contact information would be greatly appreciated.

AW will be more suitable, as they tend to race more frequently, and would be more likely to run at a local track. With NH there may be a lot less races per season, and the terms and conditions of races tend to be more diverse, so it is more likely that they will go to different courses which may be a good distance away, also most of the races will be mid week which may not suit.
In order to contact an AW trainer, you can find out who is local from Weatherby's,
http://www.weatherbys.co.uk/ .... alternatively on a day when there is racing at your local track, buy Racing Post and find statistics on the track, it will show regular trainers and you will be able to find out a bit more info from track regulars.
You can find out their recent record on Racing Post site [Page 1, top left search box] http://www.racingpost.com/
Contact their secretary stating your aims and expectations, they may have one of their own horses which they will be happy to lease, they may expect you to pay all training costs: £180 to £250 per week. Each Race will incur entry fees £50 to £100 [modest races] plus Race travel expenses, £150 plus Lads expenses, say £100 per day. Obviously a lease may include these costs, plus vet and farrier costs, but that will give you an idea.
In return, you can expect a regular report on the horse, two to four owners tickets on race-day and a jolly good time. You should be able to go on a Stable Tour, where you will be shown the horses, see a few being trained, meet staff and so on. On the day of the race, the Trainer or his Assistant will greet you, and give you an idea of your chances in the race, though he will not advise you to gamble! His primary concern is to get the horse saddled up and on to the racecourse with the jockey on board. After the race the horse will be washed down and taken back to the stables, if he wins or is placed, he will be led into the winners enclosure.

If you are wanting more then your self you will need to form a partnership which is for more then single ownerships this will cost in the region of £500 the lease can be obtained from the racing desk at Weatherbys as can the forms for the racing partnership, to register the lease is under £80 and then you have to pay to register your colours £110 i think or close to that then you have to pay for your colours if you join the ROA you get on racecourse public liability insurance, the lease from owner /stud can at times be free if something has not sold from a stud at the sales. good luck
