Oh god, I'm in the dog house

I had a slight accident with my new handbag yesterday, it got a few tiny (and I mean tiny) little rain drops on it, but it has marked the leather.

Mr Chambon is most cross and I am gutted. Is there anything I can do to salvage it? The leather is untreated and a light tan colour and the little splash marks really show.... it's ruined surely?

Help me please, is there anything I can do?

I am not sure if this will work but you could perhaps treat the leather with a leather wax/ balm thing? Maybe contact a leather accessories shop as I woould hate for you to make it even worse

I would phone the saddlers (just because they work with leather they might know!) and ask them before you do anything incase you make it worse. Maybe oiling the whole bag might help?

I know how gutting it is though- I bought a lovely Radley purse the other day and then drew on it with biro by accident

Yes, that's quite true, it 'is' only a handbag.... but it is a two and a half thousand dollar handbag that he bought me in New York last week and yesterday is the first time I took it outside

Ahh, but I'm not a shoe person at all, but I am most certainly a bag lady!

Am seriously gutted about what I've done to this bag. I have phoned my saddle who said to stick some saddle soap on it - as if!

Phone the bag manufacturer or somewhere like the handbag department of Selfridges or John Lewis. They should be able to help.

I wouldn't be putting saddle soap on it either!!!!

EEEK Chambon, thats almost a new horse

!!!....I think a transatlantic call to the manufacturer is probably in order then.

I think if you own a handbag that expensive you're supposed to go everywhere in a limo, or have your minders cover you and handbag with a large umbrella at the first sign of rain!!

Seriously, put on an uber posh voice, phone the manufacturers and tell them you're "frightfully disappointed" and will be telling all your very rich friends. You might even write in to Vogue. It's not really good enough that it gets marks on from a little bit of rain.

Lillie - how do you get biro off a radley bag?! I need to know!

Wet the whole bag. This is the only way you will be able to get rid of the spots. I have a beautiful Chanel handbag and this is exactly what I do if it gets wet. You cannot see any spots however it does slightly darken the colour. Once you have let it dry you need to find a top quality neatsfoot oil and rub a cloth over the bag - I know this because I have rawhide saddles over here. Please do not use the rubbish Neatsfoot in the orange can though - you will ruin your bag if you do!!
