Leather headcollar recommendations

The HY ones are great value for the money - ours has been going for two years now and with minimal tlc still looks good. It gets cleaned every few months with saddle soap and has been treated to a proper condition once.

We also have a few of the Shires Velociti leather travel headcollars which are a similar price and the leather is a bit softer when they first arrive. They don't come with nameplates though and it is a major pain trying to make holes and screw them in (although I may be particularly impractical and useless).

I bought a Shire's leather head collar before Covid lock down. It is left out overnight and I had to replace the head strap at one point after foxes chewed through it but it is still going strong.

This reminds me that I need to replace the 2 leather headcollars that mine have broken. The only one that has held up to lots of use is the Shires one. The other 2 that broke were other makes (that I cannot recall) and both lasted less than a year. x

About my Shires leather head collar. I completely dismantled it and treated the leather . 3 coats I seem to remember before putting it back together.

I have this, I bought it ages ago for a different horse and when it arrived io hated the shiny brass and the fact it said velociti on the buckles. It got hung in the tack room and never looked at again! Then I got my current mare and the choice of head collar to go collect her was slim so i took that. Its had so many good comments and I now really like it. Its soft, nice shape, colour, design. I still gont like the slightly garish buckles but I'd absolutely buy it agian, especially for the money.

I like the Whitaker ready to ride leather headcollars. Good price, nice soft leather and more ergonomically shaped/positioned buckles than some makes of headcollar.

I bought a Kentucky one , it’s not leather but it looks like it . It’s so soft and has a plate you can engrave( on the other side ) . I did have husbands card when I bought though 🤣

I bought a couple of leather headcollars earlier this year from Old Mill Saddlery, with engraved plates, very happy with them. I think they will last with a bit of care
I get all mine from there....

I'm another for the engraved old mill saddlery headcollars. I have one that is used in the field daily, doesn't look pretty anymore but no issues with stitching or leather.
