Evening all,

I know there's been lots of threads previously re leather headcollars, but I've searched and searched and can't find a definitive answer! I'm looking for a good quality leather headcollar with a solid brass nameplate (for engraving), preferably for under £50 and *needed in time for Christmas!*

I saw that someone on a previous thread recommended this Hy one:
http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/Shop+by+Brand/Hy/Leather+Headcollar+by+Hy_312-0067.htm
But I've never had anything from Hy before and for the price I'm dubious about the quality - any other reviews?

And this Horseware Amigo one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amigo-Leath...0579&sr=8-2&keywords=leather+headcollar+plate
But the two pics make it look quite different, and the leather looks like it could be a bit stiff and bulky?

My fallback plan is Brass Tacks at Olympia, but obviously they're more expensive and have also heard the sizing can be funny? It's for a Welsh D, if that helps at all. (Olympia also not ideal as I'll be there with the intended recipient!).

Any help or recommendations much appreciated!

I'm trying to avoid buying a separate brass plate as concerned about them not both arriving in time/ruining it trying to attach myself/bad job at a shoe repairers etc. It would be just my luck!

Thanks in advance x

Have you checked Barnstormers? I had jodhpur boots by Hy and they were decent enough quality - lasted about a year and half, with everyday heavy use in all weathers :)

I had one from a stall at HOYS which was lovely for around £30-35 and the stall that engraves nameplates attached one of theirs for me for around £15 from memory.
the reason I didn't get the Brass Tacks one is they're not adjustable at the nose and my show cob has a very deep jaw and I can't abide head collars that you can't put on Ives a bridle when necessary.
Not sure if that helps?!

I bought one from English Bridles at HOYS (beautiful leather, adustable and about £33) then took it to the brass plate stall and had them fit the plate, they didnt mind that it wasnt one of their headcollars just charged a little extra for the fitting

I've got the Amigo one and yes it's a bit stiff and bulky. It's small round the nose too, my lad is part welsh D and his cob size only just fits round his nose. It's lovely, but could be better really
