Can anyone recommend where to get one as a gift?
A lovely girl fellow livery is moving away (with her horse) and I thought this would make a nice leaving gift. Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy one, pre engraved? Her horse is quite a large guy so somewhere that stocks extra-full would be good, suspect he'd also get away with std full.

There is a stand that is at all the big shows, beautiful leather headcollars with brass fittings and name plates that they engrave and fix whilst you wait. I can see the stand as clear as day in my mind - shame I cannot remember the name !! someone will soon though.

Sorry Sheep, that was as useful as a chocolate fire guard for you. I have 3 of their headcollars all lovely and have lasted well,

Do you mean Brass Tacks? They are at all the major shows. I have one of their premium headcollars, they are gorgeous but rather expensive at over £100?

I have had mine a few years and they were not quite that much, but I do have a ritual of only buying a leather head collar for a horse when he has justified the honour of having one with his name on it. So mine get one when they win a decent class and that head collar stays with them for life. I have 3 in my tack room that are all over 25 years old, all kept clean and never used again as they carry the name of a lost horse. Soft old bint I hear you say, well yes, but I treasure those head collars.

I got one for Cassie last year (or may be year before) at Olympia. Definitely didn't pay £100 - I think nearer £40. It's great quality and they did it for me there and then. How urgently do you need it OP as I can look for them next week and message details? I am sure they will be there as they seem to be there every year. x

Looks similar to mine, but I definitely didn't pay that much as I got it for me on behalf of my sister and she didn't have a £100 budget.

I have this one, got it at HOYs a couple of years ago. It's lovely leather but there's no adjustment on the nose and I find it comes up big on both ponies

Thanks all! The brasstacks ones are lovely but a bit beyond budget sadly.

Maybe they are. It still looks immaculate, I don't use it every day, but every time we go out - two to three times a week and have been pleased with it. :)

Sheep - let me know if you want me to check them out for you. x

If you don't mind that would be brilliant, thank you! :)

This is so touching.. makes me think I should buy one of those beautiful brasstack ones for my boy. He's 21 and retired though because he's a crock, but he's beautiful and he's my first horse so I love him dearly!
Hopefully my friend's boy is also deserving of a swanky headcollar but in December I'm not sure I could stretch to £95.... but we shall see!

£50 at fylde saddlery. I've had a bridle made by them (Ernie isn't a standard size) and love the leather quality.

I'm thinking of asking them to make me a headcoller. They have loads in standard sizes but can always make one if (like me) you need something a bit special.

I got a nice leather head collar from a local shop for £30 then went to eBay for a nameplate £8.50 free post. Came with tiny screw fittings. Really lovely, it's daughters horses best so not used overly but a good buy

Almost all £30-40 leather headcollars have brass tags attached, yr local Timpsons can engrave them for an tenner I guess. Prob solved!

Mine is about 2 years old and was definitely that much - it's a Brass Tacks premium headcollar, £120 on their website today :)

I'm doing the same as a gift for a friend and just bought a nice plain leather headcollar and took it to my local engravers/trophy makers and they fitted a plate for me. Saved about £20 this way and I could pick the font and size of text too :)

Richardson Designs also do them, they are at Olympia.

I bought one at Your Horse, really happy with it. I paid £52.50, includes engraving.

Are they easy to fit? I've been thinking about getting a nameplate for my existing leather headcollar for a while but wasn't sure how they attached?
