We tend to buy ours at the shows from Brass Tacks. They are really expensive, but they are used almost daily and some of them are still going strong after 12 years of use.
They are about £65 or so, but this includes the brass plate and up to 10 letters. Really quality leather and good fittings. http://www.brasstacksonline.net/
i have a Dever Ascot one, quiet cheap (under £30), but looks very smart, and is padded.
i have used it everyday for about 1/2 year in all weathers, and the adjoining peice between the throatlash and the noseband has broken off, but the headcollar is still in usable and safe, and IMO good value for money.

Got my leather headcollar for £19.99 from the local tack shop, then got a nameplate from Brass Tacks at an event this year - got his posh name put on it, everyone thinks he is very classy
