Leather headcollars

The headcollars that I have seen seem to have a padded noseband covered with a thin coating of leather that rubs away and wears with age. Are they all like that. I really fancy a leather headcollar but they are not worth it to me if they soon become tatty.
 
Shires do this one with no padding.

I have the English Bridles comfort head collar for my warmblood, it is more padded over the nose band and 1 inch in thickness but doesn't look heavy for her head. Very pleased with the quality of leather and brass fittings for the price.
 
I have the English Bridles comfort headcollar for my exmoor youngster (it was her present from Hoys last year!) and I have to disagree with those above - I found it gorgeous for the first few months and then it started to get very tatty despite it being well cared for (cleaned and conditioned weekly!)...I realised then that it wasn't English leather so felt very disappointed to have been "taken in" by a clever company name thinking I was buying something of real quality :(

I've got this exact one. Bought it at least 7 years ago and still looks good - despite my lack of care! It's become lovely and supple, plus is one of the few with a buckle on the nose band which I like as use it for shows so makes it easier to keep something on them when putting on bridle etc.
 
I have two of the English Bridles ones in regular use and they are immaculate still, I'm really pleased with them

Did you manage to confirm with them whether they are English leather in the end?

Yes to these, I bought 1 on an HHO recommendation and glad I did. My boy got it caught on something & pulled back and it broke easily. I've since bought another as the quality was so good. I will only buy leather head collars even though I seem to go through them rather quickly!
 
I always have leather headcollars (leave on mine as hard to catch) the one I have now is a german one thin straps and lightweight. It is very colour faded but the leather is supple as anything considering its hardly cleaned! I've gone through afew though they break easily. The chunky heavy ones I don't like though I find they go hard and crack.
