The mothership had a lovely pair of long boots made-to-measure a good few years ago. Now that she doesn’t compete and my calves seem to have slimmed to the point that I can get into them :o I’d like to keep using them for both sentimental and £ reasons at the mo! However, while they’re mostly in great nick, there is a patch on both where the outer needs serious attention (I think they may have been stored in less than ideal conditions for a couple of years).

Will try to get a pic later but it’s on the area that’s crinkled where the foot joins the leg of the boot, i.e. where there’d be laces if they had them. The issue is that the very top, thin layer of the leather has started to crack/peel. Is there anything anyone can suggest to help me save them? Thanks, all x

You could try lashings of neatsfoot oil overnight. It won't repair existing cracks but will make the leather soft and supple to preventing further deterioration and can improve the appearance of cracked leather. Just be aware it can darken colours.

:D Thanks for the neatsfoot hint, cyberhorse - had bunged some on as damage control so hopefully not looking at anything worse...

littlescallywag, a pro service would be ideal if one does indeed exist - if the company name or mag issue number comes to you, please do let me know. Cheers.
