Advice needed please...
I am considering bringing my 2.5 yr old filly in to local livery yard over the winter, she has been out 24/7 since birth. She has had very little work just the basics such as leading, standing tied whilst groomed/ farrier etc. But I was thinking of gettin her in and doing some more ground work/long lining & getting her used to yard life. I would then be Turing her back out again around March until she comes in at 3.5yrs to be broken. She is my 1st baby & will be Professionally broken as I don't have the experience of breaking or time with work/children to do to competently.

should I just leave her out until breaking time or bring her in for a few months this winter? Thanks in advance :)

Certainly wouldn't do her any harm. I am starting to work with my 2.5yr old now. She was very well handled when I bought her as a yearling but I have left her out to grow mostly, and just done odd bits with her.

Do you know which pro yard you will send her to? I would ask them if they prefer to do the long-lining etc themselves or whether they are happy for you to do it :)

Dont see why you need to stable her to do work with her? Why not leave turned out and simply bring in purely to do work?! I definately wouldnt want mine only getting grass turnout once a week...

I agree with this. My youngster was turned out 24/7 but I brought her on the yard daily to feed her, give her a routine and occasionally do bits of groundwork. I sometimes put her in a stable to get her used to it but I preferred her to live out. Just because they live out doesn't mean they have to be feral!
