Leaving feed bowls in the field....??

Yes! I use Kangaroo skips - the huge ones though! I have also used the fiberglass ones like this

They are hollow and you fill them through a plug in the base with sand or water to weigh them down. The idea is to stop the horse tipping all the feed out - unless like Hector, the horse still gets his feet in and spreads the feed around the bowl lol! H eventually put his foot through the bottom of this though. Sounds worse than it was - he basically just cracked it, making it impossible to use anymore..... He now has a white fibreglass one wedged into a tyre - works a treat and is actually too tall for him to get his feet in, so has almost stopped him throwing his feed everywhere!!

I make my feeds up in regular plastic buckets and then go in to the field and tip into each horses feed bowl and mix up. My horses know the routine and know the pecking order. Never have any problems.

All ours are left in the field with rubber feed skips, unless I'm still outside when they finish eating. If I hang around when my 2 eat my gelding will be even more aggressive to my mare, so I leave them to it. I would leave buckets in the stable, but Murphy has mastered the art of destroying even the sturdiest of rubber buckets, so his comes out when he has his late night hay.
