Leaving puppy out of crate...

My husky x lab is now 6 months he has always been crated at night and when were out and he loves his crate. For the last, probably 2 or 3 months, he has slept out of crate. But always in it when we go out (with a kong or treat ball). My other dog 10 months has run off house. I want to leave both out so they can play etc but I left him out for about 30 mins... They had played tug of war with a very nice rather large plant... Wet black mud all over the cream carpet...

How should I do this? Any tips appreciated

2 young large breed pups? I would make sure the room they were in was totally puppy proof-ie nothing for them to chew/play with, just beds and a bowl, possibly a tug toy/non destructible ball if they are non aggressive to each other.

What about an indoor pen? Like a fenced off area with gates? Or as Susie T says, a dog proof room. Otherwise, rotate the crate!
