Tonight Im going to leave my cobs lightweight rug off ive seen the forcast and its 10 degrees at night its sheltered you can still see his saddle patch but i'm bitting the bullet !!anyone doing this now.

Mines had no rug at night for over a week now, and has only recently gone on turnout after 6 weeks box rest, so have had to rough off slowly.
It was 14 degrees here overnight last night
Fuzzies were all sweating last night at 7pm - and have got shelters that they are using to get out of the flies!

Out of our 6, two were rugged for about a week in total when it was relentless and wet a couple of months back. Others all unrugged right through. Last night we took the decision not to rug anyone elses either... we were still sweating at 10pm in t-shirts when we went out to check on them.

Certainly no need for a cob in good condition to be rugged.

Agreed 100% with L&M

My TB has had her summer coat through since mid March kept a rug on til Mid April when I finished hunting so that she was clean and dry (lives out 24/7) now completely naked until Autumn hunting starts then she will have a light weight on night before any meets that we go to.
My Sec D had her rug off 24/7 for a couple weeks in April then it was back on all the time when it got cold until a couple weeks ago now she is naked also (she still has summer coat coming through or rug would've been off alot sooner) Again in the autumn she will have a light weight on the night before a meet.

My TB has been rugless during the day, and was for the first time last night. He's fine and is naked tonight too :)

would be amazing if anything except very old or poor condition horses had a rug on atm!

I am witness to the rugged horses out numbering the unrugged at the moment. I'm talking young, healthy horses AND natives wearing combo rugs in the stable at night still

.

Whereas my elderly, Cushings horse has been naked for months now.

When these healthy horses finally shed their combo and turnout rigs, they will go straight into fly sheets.

I'm all for what a horse needs....but there is a weird need for some people to over rug their horses IMO.

But the same owners have no problems with rationing their hay and feeds

I must say my Arab cross is out with her rug on :o she has had her summer coat since end of feb :( and she only has a no - fill water proof on in case of rain :D

Well wen't down at 6am he was stood with all the crowd over the fence and looked so content yipeeeee no rugging !!!!!!!!!! thanks x

My 27yr old wb x tb has been out unrugged during day for a while, just started going out naked at night as well and he seems so much happier not to have his rug on. I've actually been horrified the amount of horses I've seen rugged lately, natives, big fat hairy cobs - all in full neck rugs!

Jeez, I'm struggling with the heat and I don't have a fur coat on. My horse can well manage without a rug overnight and, as she's not a pillar of salt, will survive the rain too.

All mine Arabs have had their rugs off for weeks. There is plenty of shelter and can get into the stables.

I think we pamper our horses too much.

This. Jeez, ours only had rugs on briefly when it was raining AND cold in the mornings lately on a case by case basis. One of ours still has a bit of winter coat left and they can go in the stable whenever they want.

I've never got the point of clipping a horse then putting a rug on it. Let nature do it's thing.

Since the beginning of this week my tb has been naked overnight in the field. Hes stabled in the day so has been naked in the day since start of april.

My Sec D x TB has been without a rug for ages, think it came off when it warmed up in March and never went back on. Hate to see a horse with a rug on in this heat and don't understand those that insist on rugging over night with temperatures like we have been having. Can understand a no fill rain sheet or fly rugs but nothing heavier

All my horses have no rugs on even in winter but being an ozzie it is a bit warmer i guess :p it still gets quite cold though i think he/she will be fine ... especially for only one night :)
