Am gobsmacked, was hunting high and low throughout the house the last 2 days for my big camp bedding bag of pillow, duvet, sleeping bag etc etc as am away in a fortnight.
Went to rummage on the luton this morning as last resort and bingo, there it was!

Gloomily I dragged it down expecting the contents to be damp, mildewy and to be thrown, but hurrah, all was as good as it was when I packed it up last summer!!
Even my light mattress was good to go.....

Perhaps its because we've had such a wet but mild winter instead of cold condensation instead? Usually if I leave anything in there over long winter months, it can get yucky.

How has your storage gone over winter?
Feeling fortunate! 🙂

You are lucky, although my box had a slight leak! I found I had a lot more condensation this year than last year, even though the leak was fixed. Anything left on a surface in the box had condensation under it and the whole interior needed a clean and being left open in the sun (on one of the few days we actually saw the sun)

I've not had mine do this except the last 2 winters. B was off games in travelling out so the box wasnt really used from early October till mid this March. I did take it on occasional runs but nothing to speak of.
Even the leather work hanging in the back hadnt got mildew etc on it (spare girths, reins, old bridle etc)

I had a hideous shock when i opened up the back of my lorry a few months ago. I'm so good about cleaning it all out but had obviously for some reason just put it away and then as my horse started bring a pig didnt use it again.
The haynet which he'd had and hay all over the floor and up the walls ( i guess just bits stuck where he'd pulled at the net) had turned into thick white fur, Literally it looked like it had snowed. It was awful. All up the walls, over the partition everywhere.

Previously i had left my ponies saddle in it so that friends who had a tiny child could help themselves, forgot about that and that went pretty yuck too.

B&M sell little boxes of crystals in packs of 3 that catch the damp and condensation. I am sure there is a name for them but my mind is blank ! I put 6 boxes in my truck, which does get damp and the wardrobe smells a bit yuk. 3 boxes on the work surface and a box in the cupboards. They mopped up an unbelievable amount of condensation.

Yes, I have a large one thats been on the dash and regularly heated, dried and replaced back, I'm sure that helped.

We all leave loads of 'stuff' in our horseboxes but beware - I lost my lorry in a barn fire and although it was insured the contents were not. The replacement cost of all those bits & bobs collected over the years, the odd coats left in case of a rainy/cold day, living cupboard contents, rugs etc etc has been phenomenal. New lorry has a £2000 contents allowance but that will barely cover it. Even my driving glasses cost £600!! Im off now to bring them into the house!

I've always left loads of stuff in my horsebox and never had an issue with mould or damp.
I always had a pot of those damp repelling crystals in the living though, which I suppose shows they work!

My new lorry accesses the Luton through the cab and it is always very dry up there and not musty.
