For anyone who hasn't seen this, which Lee has shared on Facebook - words almost fail me - there are some charming people in this world :(

"Dear Lee

I do not want to be disparaging, but to call yourself an "International athlete" as you did in Come Dine With Me, needs some questioning.

How many people with your disability are there in the UK? Two hundred perhaps?

How many of these two hundred actually indulge in equestrian activity? I would imagine about twenty.

So, to be chosen for the Great Britain team, is not being chosen out of the 70 million in the UK, but being chosen out of about twenty people.

So, to call yourself an international athlete, is a bit of a stretch!

And your nine gold medals, in the light of this examination of what your sport means, is somewhat diluted don't you think?

Regards

**** ****** "

Oh wow, people are entitled to their own opinions, what shocks me most is that they take time out to give their unsolicited opinion .

I'm sure Lee will treat this person's opinion with the contempt it deserves!

i think this person has quite fundamentally misunderstood.

perhaps only 20 people in the uk with lee's disability are riders, but he isn't selected out of only those 20 people. he is selected out of the many many more people with his level of disability - what with there being different 'levels' of para riders depending on what they are able to do.

so not only is this person a complete tool but they are also completely wrong.

Madness! He's an inspiration to able bodied riders also, he has an amazing feel for a horse and not many of the riders graded at his level also compete to a high level as he does against the able bodied!

Agree wiuth this. Some people are so shallow and use the internet to hide behind. I think Lee is amazing and like all paralympicins are an inspiration to many people including me. Its people like the person that wrote this that need to take a good damn hard look in the mirror.

**And breathe. Rant over**

A possible reply from Lee,

"Dear Ignorant Pig,

I compete against International able bodied competitors at my sport and I normally beat many or all of them too. Even though I can't walk unaided and have almost no power in my legs on a horse, I am able not only to school them at home, but to go out in competition and compete on an equal footing (pun intended) to people with full use of their bodies.

Pipe, your, smoke, that, it, stick, in, and. Rearrange into a well known phrase or saying.

Yours,

Lee"

The most inspiring thing I ever saw was Lea Pearson get off Blue Circle Boy after competing in a BD Premier League class (not paralympics, normal dressage) and seeing how incredibly disabled he was. It blew my brain that he could ride the way I had seen him doing, with a body so lacking in control or strength.

What a dreadful thing to say! Lee Pearson is a true inspiration to all riders, whether able bodied or disabled! I wish I could ride as well as he can! Some people are so ignorant, and why they feel the need to share their small-minded views with others is beyond me. I am quite sure Lee is quite big enough to rise above such callous, ignorant comments.

I would love to know who actually wrote that to him. Some people are so bitter they want to bring everyone down.

Some people just do not get how Lee and other paralympics have overcome huge obstacles to get where they are in their chosen sport.I would like to see some able bodied folk achieving what Lee and the other riders have done to be at the top of their game. Some people just need a life and perhaps some self reflection to enable them to appreciate what they have ,compared to others who are less fortunate.Only self awareness will help them appreciate the paralympians.

bloody disgusting!!!

Like others have said he is an inspiration to ANY rider be they able bodied or not.

Why did they decide to pick on him?! Could the same (narrow minded and uneducated) point of view be cast on any of our paralympic athletes? :(

Watched several Para riders (including Lee) warming up at Hartpury and have to say they looked far more 'classical' in that the dressage looked effortless and a true partnership between horse and rider.

Saw it on FB. 'Total and utter tool' are the only words that spring to mind.

Lee Pearson = complete and utter inspiration and love his horse, Gentleman.

I think whoever left that message for Lee is truly despicable. I have just watched the video that Stroppymare left the link to and was gobsmacked. It was just jaw-droppingly amazing. I would love to be able to have just one tiny bit of the ability that Lee has!

Hear, Hear, so true

I've been riding all my life, I have regular lessons, and have a fully able body. I can only dream of riding as well as Lee Pearson. The person who wrote that awful letter should be ashamed of themselves, and I'm sure that Lee realises this.

Superhuman vs. complete tit.

No contest.

This ^^

The guy seems to communicate with his mind when riding, I honestly admire that he has such an amazing way with his horses. He has been selected from many physically impaired riders, not twenty who have the same disability.

What a fool the person who wrote the letter appears to be.
