I was thinking of using the Lee Valley Riding Centre in London for riding lessons. I was using Trent Park EC last year but had to give up for a while (I don't think I want to go back because it was expensive and the horses were always knackered, IMO)

Has anyone any experience of using this place?

Thanks

I have a friend who rides with the RDA based at the Lea Valley riding centre and she would recommend it to other people, she says the staff are friendly and helpful and the horses well mannered and obedient.

I used to keep H there while I was at uni, as a livery yard it was very good, not much turnout, but then what do you expect in london

As for lessons, would really recommend James as an instructor if he is still there, if not then Mark is very good, but James was excellent, it is expensive mind, but again, its london so to be expected

My daughterhas had lessons at lee valley for a couple of years (when with her Dad) and to be honest I don't think much of their their teaching. They don't correct her position so she used to sit all hunched over with her hands resting on the horse's withers, they told her to make sure her leg was bent at the knee so her lower leg was behind theg girth so she rode with her foot practically touching the horse's bum. She has learnt more in half a dozen lessons with a good instructor than in 2 years of lessons there!

Nostalgia attack... I rode there for a bit with a University riding club in 1974-ish......

P.S. Trent Park.... I had a series of lessons there about a year ago on some rather nice horses (none of them worked in outline though), but got a bit tired of having my private lesson at one end of the big school with 3 or 4 other private lessons going on at my end at the same time. Half the time I couldnt hear my instructor, and other half I was avoiding novices or jumpers.

That was the final straw for me, actually. I paid nearly £40 for a lesson. The instructor was ten minutes late (but we finished on time), he refused to teach me flatwork around jumps in an empty arena, so I had to dodge kiddies on shetlands in the smaller arena. He was a crap instructor too.
