Left V Right.. the battle of who can say what to who..

It seem to me that this is a Left V Right war..
Jeremy Clarkson can't say that Gordon Brown is a "one eyed Scotish idiot"...
But Phil Jupitus can say "burn the b!tch" when talking about Margaret Thatcher..
And Jo Brand can make crude/bad taste jokes about Lady Thatcher and a womans lady garden

I'm not a Margaret Thatcher fan or anything, but i see the two comments being made about her, in the name of comedy, alot worse than anything Jeremy Clarkson or Carol Thatcher has said..

What do you all think?????
 
I think it boils down to context and what is being ridiculed. Things like race, disability, sexual orientation, gender etc are all no-no's. Calling Margaret Thatcher a 'bitch' could quite easily be interpreted as a commentary on her political career, rather than her gender. Likewise, I'm sure Gordon is used to being called an 'idiot' (if that offends him he probably shouldn't be in politics) but the 'one-eyed' bit was the stinger.
Carol Thatcher referred to an individual as looking like a golliwog - that is directly related to his race and I think could logically be cause for offense.
I think public figures must realise that they are not going to be to everyone's taste, but probably reasonably expect criticism to be levelled at what they do, rather than incidental characteristics over which they have little or no control and which don't influence how they do what they do.
Also there are the inferences that, because Gordon is a 'one-eyed Scottish idiot' all people with one eye are idiots etc, which disability campaigning and lobbying groups obviously would have an issue with.
That's my thought on the matter anyway.

No flicker - I dont think there was any inference that people with one eye are idiots - I think Jeremy was quite clear...

One Eyed - Fact
Idiot - Jeremy's opinion which he's quite entitled to.

Sounds like a good description to me - not very polite, but fairly accurate. Likewise when did it become a crime to say someone looks like a golliwog - we all know what they look like - I have my old one in the loft. I've got red hair and have frequently been described as "carrot head" or "rusty top". And what about Charles's friend "Sooty" - he doesn't mind being called that?
It's not what's said, but the intention behind it that matters - and that's a matter for the person involved to explain, not the media or the campaigning and lobbying groups - who seem to "take issue" constantly.

There's something rotten in the barrel and nobody in government or local politics has the guts to stand up and say "GROW UP THE LOT OF YOU".

If you agree then pass this on. If not then you still have the democratic right to delete it. (Well for the time being anyway).
 
It's all gone mad. I don't care what colour people are, and if I don't agree with some of their views I don't listen/watch/tend to be their best mate!

Should also say that my OH is German by birth, moved back to Britiain at about three months of age, and he had so much grief when at school for being German. He still has friends now call him kraut, Hitler, they think they're joking, but it annoys me, as what difference does it make where he was born? Surely it's the person that matters.

i think the point about paki is that its often used in a derogatory and insulting way. My friend has been spat at and called a "paki bitch" whilst just walking down the street. Thats completly different to being called "a brit" in the sun! I would never ever say paki as it is so often an insult, even if people refer to themselves like that.
 
I agree.

I dont feel British anymore, whatever that is now coz its been beaten out of us and taken away, and I'm definately not proud to be called British. We are weak, we have 'MUG' written on our foreheads, we dont stand up for ourselves for what is right.

We have been so supressed we dont have a voice or a choice anymore. We must lay back and take it up the A*SE.

I mean come on the Red squirrel gets more rights and protection than we do.

I'm not racist at all, as I do not give a toss what colour or nationality you are, but if you want to come to Britain then please respect our way of life, laws and religion (I'm not religous by the way).

I think the tables have turned, we are the abused, we are racially attacked - They are the racists, not us. If they keep on poking us with a stick then we will eventually bite!

Why does aid go to other countrys when we have so much need at home. We are becoming a third world country. Our NHS is struggling, our schooling is dire, we have old people dieing from cold!

I think a big mistake we made was getting into debt, because we are now slaves to the rhythm and can not stop and fightback for our British.....Brit life!

No I dont think that is it at all. I dont feel guilty about it as I was not born then, and I didnt do it and I wouldnt have agreed with it either. Its only the older generation that would be feeling guilty.
It happened but it stopped (quite rightly).

Women have been fighting for their rights since year dot! But we dont go on about it. We never came out in millions in support when Margaret Thatcher was made the first woman Prime minister.

I think they are just milking it personally and they know it.

God I sound a grumpy old person. I'm not actually I just wish everyone would get on and lighten up and stop picking on each other.
